Chapter Two making my way

I fell in love with Asher when I rescued him from being killed. Back then, he wanted to repay me, but I never wanted anything back from him. As a Lycan Princess, I have everything in my possession, so he made a promise to make me his chosen Luna by the time he was ready to take up the role as Alpha.

TEN YEARS AGO

I sit quietly on the ground with my eyes focused on the water spring, which is my favorite place in the world apart from the library.

I throw a stone into the water and chuckle as it disappears out of sight. I have always appreciated nature, that's why I am always compelled to be here. It's like a place of solitude to me.

Standing up, I walk slowly towards the spring of water and reach out a hand to get a handful of it when I hear a cry of anguish.

Startled, I incline my head in the direction I heard it from before quietly walking towards it. I stop when I didn't hear it again, and I wonder if everything is all in my imagination.

"Help… ah… no, I don't want to die." The voice sounded so desperate that I instantly begin to search for him. I am careful of thorns before I'm surrounded by forests, but no matter how careful I am, I still manage to get a scratch or two.

Pushing the pain to the back of my mind, my eyes wander around for the one who seems to be in trouble. When I don't see him anywhere, I begin to run, and soon I begin to pant out of breath.

After regaining my strength a bit, I stand with my hands on my lip, with my eyes searching everywhere for him until I see him.

He's lying down on the ground with his head bent over his arms. Without thinking, I run towards him and tap on his shoulder. He looks up at me, and everything suddenly becomes silent. He's so handsome that I run out of words… I am speechless of what to say to him because the best word to describe his look is… cute.

I feel my cheeks begin to heat up just as my heart starts to beat faster. He looks like a fairytale… my own very prince charming.

"Umm… who are you?" He asks while I blink in astonishment. His voice is like a soft breeze, caressing my soft skin.

A smug smile tugs at the corners of my mouth, and I shake my head, "I will tell you later." I extend my hand to him, and he stares at me in confusion. "Right now, I need to take you far away from here. My guess is you are running from someone, no?" I inquire, and he looks down in embarrassment.

"Yes," he mutters, and grabs his shoulders and he takes that as a clue to get up. When he does, he winces in pain, and I look down at his feet and realize that he broke an ankle.

"I'm sorry, but you will have to ignore the pain if you want to be safe." He nods at me in response, and I lend him my body to lean on, and together we move from there.

Just after we are out, I hear hooves of horses followed by the screams of men.

"Where is he?" I hear a voice say, and the boy and I go very still. I cover him with my body and give him a sign not to say a word. He clenches his hands and still nods anyway. Although where we are right now, I know they won't be able to catch us but I still do not want to take chances. I make up my mind immediately to do what I have to do to protect him from being taken by those men.

"We can't let him go! We must find him and take him to the Alpha." Another says this time, his voice filled with animosity that I take a glance at the boy behind me. He looks to be about four or five years older than I am, but his cute baby doll face makes him look younger.

"You have to stay here." I say, and he tips his head forward, frowning slightly. "I need to mislead them."

He reaches out a hand and grabs me by the arm. "It's dangerous for you. You don't have to put your life in danger for my sake." He mutters.

Wait, he doesn't know who I am? I am surprised because I thought everyone knew who the Lycan princess was.

"Listen, no one can hurt me." I wink at him. "That's a promise." I don't wait to see his reaction as I quickly run out to the place we came from.

When the men see me, they bend their heads in greeting. Most look away, but one of them, who looks to be the leader of the group, cocks his eyes knowingly. "Princess, did you manage to see any boy running down here?" His voice is hoarse, and any normal girl would be scared of him, but I'm not. It's not because I'm a princess and know that no one can ever hurt me unless they are asking for war, but because I believe in my own strength. If not anything, I can knock a tooth or two out of the men.

I nod my head, "Yes, I saw him running straight. If you are fast, you'd be able to catch up with him." I lie through my teeth, and they seem to believe me because they murmur their thanks before they disappear out of sight.

I chuckle at how easily I was able to deceive them before I make my way back to the boy I left on his own. "They are gone." I announce with a grin.

He looks up in disbelief before his face breaks into a sweet smile. "Really? Thank you so much. What should I do for you?" He mutters, his eyes twinkling in sincerity.

Sighing, I grab his hand and shake my head. "Nothing really. I want nothing from you. I have no needs because I have everything I want."

He looks baffled and looks like he wants to ask a question but quickly shakes his head. Knowing what the unasked question is, I offer the information myself. "I'm the Lycan princess." His eyes widen in surprise. We talk some more, and I learn he's Alpha Luke's son of the Black Hills Pack.

"But I want to give you something. Consider it as a thank you for saving me today." He persists, and I'm speechless because I don't know what to ask.

"I don't know…" I sigh, shaking my head at him.

He grins and kisses my head. "Then be my Luna. I will make you my Luna when I'm at the age to take over the pack from my Alpha." I stare speechless at him, first from his actions and now his words.

"But you can't…"

I begin but he cuts me short. "I want to… It's a promise."

I gasp because I know that Alpha doesn't ever break their promises. They cherish them like oaths sworn to the goddess. No matter whether I felt it was wrong, I was happy that he was going to be my Alpha. Who wouldn't want to belong to a man as cute as he was.

PRESENT TIME

Ever since that day, I have fallen in love with him so much that I have denied any man from courting me. My parents are against my decision, but I believe I know what is best for me. So when I heard in my kingdom that the Alpha of the Black Hills pack was choosing a Luna for his son, I abandoned my career and family and friends for the competition.

That was when he picked me.

But he did not choose me because I'm Aurora, the Lucan King's daughter; he chose me because I have the same hair as Claire, not knowing we were the same person.

I know I should just reveal my identity to him, but at that time, I want him to fall in love with me because of me, and not because he made a promise to a little girl and that he should be obligated to fulfill it.

I had thought caring for him would make him fall in love with me, but it seems I was wrong.
