The long-awaited day was finally here. Prom night. Kyle's father had given him the keys to his car, a Mercedes C300. His father had a car dealership with Mercedes. He couldn't contain his joy as he hugged his dad.
"Thanks, dad," he said
"I have something for you too," his father said going into the house to get something,
"What's that?" Kyle asked.
"I won't be long" the father shouted from inside the house
Kyle stood by the car waiting and the father came out as soon as he had gone in holding a small box in his hand.
"Here son, have these. This should come in handy after the dance" he said smiling.
Kyle felt the content of the box and was amazed. Condoms.
"Dad, are you for real?" He asked surprised.
"Yeah, you might wanna have fun later so that's why I got you, it was your grandfather's idea, not mine," He said looking in the direction of the porch where his grandfather was seated reading a newspaper.
"Yeah Kyle, that was me," Said his grandfather straightening his glasses.
"Better be on my way dad," he said getting into the car, "by the way tell mom I love her".
"I will," the father said waving at him.
Kyle pulled out of the driveway into the road and off he went, he couldn't contain his excitement behind the wheels, and he was careful so he didn't hit any cars. He got to Malia's house in a couple of minutes, he got out of the car and made for the front door, and knocked gently,
"Who is it?" Came a voice from inside
"Someone you'd like to see," he said giggling.
The door opened and the person who was behind the door was Mrs. Sue, Malia's mom.
"Oh hello there Kyke, how are you?" Mrs. Sue asked.
"I'm ok ma'am, is Malia ready yet?" Kyle asked.
"She will be soon, Malia be fast about your thing, your date is here," the mom said smiling.
"Mom, I can't find my earrings," Malai said from up the stairs
"Goodness me!" The mother said, "where'd you keep them"
"I don't know" came Malia's voice.
"Come right in Kyle, don't mind me keeping you at the door," said Mrs. Sue
"It's ok ma'am," Kyle said as he entered.
He was offered a sit in the living room while patiently waiting for his date. There was a rattle coming from behind the chair, he wanted to know what was making the noise but he got the surprise of his life.
It was Malia's little brother Mali, he had while playing hide and seek with his twin. Malia had younger brothers who were twins, Mali and Mike. They had been playing hide and seek before Kyle came
"Whoa" screamed Kyle as he fell hard on the floor.
Mali came out of his hiding place to look at Kyle still on the floor,
"Wow!" said Mali "you look like a pastor," he said laughing
"No, I do not," Kyle said getting to his feet.
"Yes you do, hey Mike come see Malia's boyfriend dressed like a pastor," he said calling out to his twin,
"Shut up Mali, he is not my boyfriend" came Malia's voice from upstairs.
"Come make me shut up," Mali said
"Grrr" Malia said frustrated.
Mike came running from the kitchen from where he'd been looking for Mali,
"Oh! He is dressed like a pastor" Mike said laughing, Mali joining in too.
"Oh father please pray for us for we have sinned," said Mali laughing more joined in by his twin brother.
"Hahaha very funny," said Kyle not finding it funny at all.
"Mike! Mali! Go to your room, now." Said the mother descending the stairs with Malia,
"Aw man, not now mom," the boys said in unison.
"Go to your room now, or I'm taking away your video games for a month!" The mother said with a note of finality.
The boys had no choice but to obey their mother with resigned looks on their faces.
Malia looked stunning in her prom dress, with a little touch of makeup moderately applied and her hair which was always packed had been let loose and it was reaching her shoulder. Kyle couldn't stop staring at her and Malia couldn't stop smiling either.
"Wow! You look beaut…beautiful" Kyke stuttered trying to find the right words.
"Thank you and you do look handsome yourself" Malia complimented him giggling...
"Shall we?" Kyle asked stretching out his hand.
"Yeah sure," Malia said grabbing his hand as they stepped outside.
"Be careful you too, make sure to be home before 1 a.m," said Mrs. Sue.
"Sure mom, bye!" Said, Malia.
"Bye Mrs. Sue, your daughter is safe with me so no need to worry," said Kyle as he opened the door for Malia.
"Bye!" Mrs. Sue said one last time before she went back inside to prepare dinner for her husband.
The drive to school was a bit quiet, they didn't talk much only smiling at each other.
"What's so funny?" Kyle asked Malia
"I don't know, guess you're," Malia said giggling.
She couldn't help but giggle, she always did around whenever she was around Kyle and it made her feel loved, though Kyke and Malia were best of friends they always acted like lovers. People always thought they were dating because they were always together.
They got to school and they saw students all over the place looking fly in their colorful prom outfits. Kyle wasn't the only student driving that day, other students brought their cars too, Kyle's car was one of the flashiest cars so there was no need to worry about his status. Jerome and Anastasia had arrived in a black Mercedes GLA, Jerome tried to make a big deal of it but everyone ignored him because he could be a jerk sometimes.
Carlos, one of Kyle's Mexican friends came over to meet them.
"Que pasa mi amigo?" Carlos asked in Spanish.
"Soy bueno hermano, ¿qué pasa contigo?"Kyle said.
"I'm good, thind been going well," Carlos said. "Wait, is that your car?"
"Yup, it is," he said.
"No way man," Carlos said going around the car and checking it out excitedly.
"It's my dad's actually, sabes que mi papá tiene un concesionario de autos?" Kyle said with a mix of English and Spanish.
"Sí, lo recuerdo, me dijiste una vez," Carlos replied in Spanish.
Malia was at a loss as to what the two of them were saying she felt left out.
"Hello! I'm still here" she said.
"Baby I'm sorry, I was caught with my friend here Carlos" Kyle said. "I didn't formally introduce both of you, Carlos, this is Malia, Malia, Carlos," Kyle said introducing the two.
"A pleasure meeting you," Malia said, stretching her hand for a handshake.
"The pleasure is all mine," Carlos said, kissing her hand.
"Carlos, Carlos" came a female's voice walking angrily towards us.
"Oh boy, and he's in trouble," Kyle said to Malia, whispering in her ears.
It was Lilandra, Carlos' girlfriend. She had been looking for him all over the place.
"Carlos you've been here the whole time, I've been looking for you all over the place," she said angrily, speaking Spanish as she continued her ranting.
"Lilandra calm down, you're embarrassing yourself," Kyle said tapping her on the shoulder.
"Oh! I didn't see you there Kyke, Malia, you look stunning darling" she said holding hands with Malia and hugging her.
"Thank you, you look sweet too, you were so angry you didn't seem to notice me and Kyle" Malia said giggling.
"I'm sorry, I was just worried because I couldn't find Carlos," she said cutting him an angry look.
"But you found him now," Malia said.
"Now that we know each other, can we head inside?" Kyle asked.
The four of them went inside together, each with their dates. Malia asked Kyle where he learned how to speak Spanish,
"Oh my bad, I didn't tell you my mom was Spanish, that's where I learned," Kyle said.
"Huh! I can't believe you're…"
"Mixed race," Kyle said, completing the statement.
"Yeah exactly, because you don't look at it all". Malia said looking surprised.
"Well, my dad's American, and my mom is from Spain. They met when my dad went for a business meeting in Spain, eventually, they fell in love and got married." Kyle said looking proud.
"I see," Malia said, smiling.
The main hall in the school was used as the venue for the Prom dance, everyone had taken their respective seats as the principal addressed them. After the whole announcement, the DJ took over as the students began pouring onto the dancefloor. Everyone had a good time when all of a sudden the DJ who happened to be a Mexican played a Spanish song by Cardi B and J. Balvin which was topping the billboard charts. The whole crowd went crazy as they began to showcase their dance moves trying to out-dance the other. Malia seemed to have forgotten herself, she danced so hard that she bumped into a server serving drinks and the whole dress poured on her dress.
