Weirdo

IAGO'S POV

"Do you even care in the slightest about me?" Please don't ruin your life for me," sobs from the phone.

"I'm sorry, mum; I didn't mean for all this to happen. You know I can't stand bullies after all that's happened to us, and a weirdo newbie was being used, so I simply couldn't let that happen to her," I attempted to explain.

"That's nice of you, my son; I'm proud of you; don't let me down," she remarked.

"I promise mum, and don't forget to take your pills on time, I'll be home shortly," I said.

"Don't worry about me and focus on your studies; I'll be OK and bring her home someday," she added passionately.

"Mum, I'm not sure what you mean, she's just a weird girl, that's all to it, trust me," I snapped.

"Hmm... I see, but I still want to see the weirdo. "I know you well, and don't try to deny it," she stated once again.

"I'll be hanging up now, chat to you later, adios for now, Love you," I snapped and hung up.

Mum can be so amusing at times, acting like a child, I thought as I sat on one of the library desks fixing some ripped books.

"Someone has a girlfriend, who would believe that a freak like you would have a girlfriend?" mocked an irritating voice right in front of me, Alan.

"Shut up if you don't know who I am. "I have nothing to explain to you anyway," I muttered, continuing to apply glue to the books.

He was rearranging old books on the shelf when he turned to face me, "so why did you say I LOVE YOU?" he asked, mimicking how I said it.

"Do you only say I love you to girlfriends, sometimes I wonder how you are so smart and act stupid," I switched my eyes to him, before returning my gaze to the books.

"Stop pretending like you know it all, nicompoop," he spit and walked away.

"And if you tell anyone about what you just saw and heard, I'll finish what you started," I said, and the too self-absorbed librarian abruptly silenced both of us.

My phone buzzed, and I checked it to discover a message from my landlord, 'you only have 3 weeks left to pay your rent or I'll toss your filthy luggage out of my apartment.'

Fuck! Only three weeks left, I can't use the money I've been saving for my mum's treatment to pay my rent, and finding a high-paying job is difficult. What should I do?

"Hey, Iago.....," was all I heard from the odd girl as she approached; I wasn't paying attention to anything she said, so I got upset and departed to do some other library tasks.

At the moment, all I needed was time to myself.

A newbie needed a classic literature, so I helped him find the best novel he could read. I was still disturbed by the notification, so I wasn't actually looking for anything specific; instead, I was messing with the books as if I were looking for a book, regardless of the fact that I knew nothing about novels.

"Senior, I think that blonde lady on the upper shelf needs assistance with a book," the newcomer stated, pointing in the direction.

Finally, an excuse to flee, "I'll go check out what she needs, the classics you need will be around here someplace, just search," I snapped and dashed over to where the lady was.

She was having trouble getting several novels from the upper shelf, so I helped her and was about to hand her the books when I spotted the weird girl, Jessica. I swear if I'd known she was the one in need of assistance, I wouldn't have bothered. Then she stood motionless, staring at me as if something was wrong with my eyes or demeanor.

I asked her if there was something wrong with my face, and she yanked the books I had helped her with from my hands; now you know why I call her a weirdo, and I left straight away.

“Oh right… I need some fantasy romance, too," the newbie added, and I returned to where he was.

Who reads fantasy romance when you can watch them? However, because I am his senior, I must be mature and manage the matter like an adult.

"Okay, give me a minute," I murmered as I dashed to the librarian's desk.

"Quick inquiry, Ms Librarian, where are the fantasy romances?" I inquired briskly.

She pointed to Ms weirdo without moving her gaze away from the cookery book she was reading.

"OK, thanks," I murmured again as I hurried back to the newbie.

"Gee...follow me," I said to him, appearing as if I knew everything there was to know about the library.

I led him to the corner and sighted the blonde girl about to fall from a stool she had mounted to return the books I had helped her remove the last time.

Shouldn't I just let her fall? The perfect thing to do, but that uneasiness and worry came over me like the other day, and I instantly saved her without even understanding why I did it; I never cared about anyone but my mum, so why should I do it for a weirdo?

She slipped as I expected, and I glided to where she was about to fall and clutched my hands around her waist; she has a curly and voluminous blonde as her ponytail became loose, and she shook her body in panic as she clamped her arms around my neck.

I backed away from her and growled at her because she does dumb things and expects someone to save her every bloody time. Anyway, my concerns at the time were far greater than her weird and dumb qualities. I peeked at the wall clock next to me and noticed that it was getting close to the end of the day, so I just jerked away.
