The truth unravels

Lily was relieved when the police arrived to break up the confrontation. She told them what had happened, and they took her back to the station to file a report.

As she sat in the police station, Lily realized that she couldn't stay in the town any longer. She had stirred up too much trouble, and it was clear that the townspeople weren't going to accept her.

But she couldn't leave without finding out the truth about what was happening in the town.

The next day, Lily decided to visit the library to see if she could find any more information about the legend of the bride of the mist.

As she searched through old newspapers and books, she came across a journal from the early 1900s. The author was a man named Thomas, who had lived in the town during the time of the disappearances.

Lily read through the journal, and her heart sank as she realized that the legend of the bride of the mist was true. Thomas had witnessed the disappearance of several young women, and he had discovered that the townspeople were sacrificing them to appease the spirits of the mist.

Lily knew that she had to share this information with the authorities. She took the journal to the police station and showed it to the chief.

"We have to do something," she said. "People are still disappearing, and it's because of what happened a hundred years ago."

The chief looked through the journal and shook his head. "This is just a bunch of old stories," he said. "We can't go around accusing people of things that happened a hundred years ago."

Lily was frustrated. She knew that the chief wasn't going to do anything, and she felt like she was running out of options.

But then, she had an idea. She decided to contact a paranormal investigator, a friend of hers who specialized in supernatural cases. She explained the situation to him, and he agreed to come to the town to investigate.

When the investigator arrived, Lily took him to the site of the disappearances. They walked through the mist, and Lily couldn't help but feel a chill run down her spine.

The investigator took out his equipment and began to scan the area. As he worked, Lily noticed that the mist began to swirl around them, almost as if it was alive.

Suddenly, there was a loud scream from somewhere in the mist. Lily and the investigator turned to see a young woman running towards them, her clothes torn and her face covered in blood.

"It's the bride of the mist," she gasped. "She's real, and she's coming for us."

Lily and the investigator grabbed the woman and ran towards the town. As they ran, they could hear the sound of something moving through the mist behind them.

When they reached the town, they went straight to the police station. Lily showed the investigator's equipment to the chief, and he couldn't deny that something strange was happening.

"We have to do something," Lily said. "We have to stop whatever is causing these disappearances."

The chief sighed. "I'll gather some men and we'll go back to the site of the disappearances," he said. "But I don't know what we'll find."

As they made their way back to the site, Lily couldn't shake the feeling of dread that had settled in her stomach. She knew that they were getting closer to the truth, but she also knew that the truth could be dangerous.

When they arrived, the chief and his men began to search the area. Suddenly, there was a loud scream from one of the men.

Lily ran over to see what had happened, and she felt her blood run cold when she saw a figure standing in the mist.
