Chapter 35

"He wants to reawaken the soul of his dead grandfather."

"Why would he want to do that? It has nothing to do with the attempted kidnap on his girlfriend!"

"No, it doesn't, but it surely has something to do with what happened to his mother."

"Does Gustan know that you killed her?"

"No. Of course not," Hiva assured him. "No one was at her house that day, and I made sure to erase her memory of me when she died. It was a smart move I played there; I never even expected she would be reawakened."

"If you are sure that Gustan is not aware of his daughter-in-law's killer, what's the point of this scroll you stole? Gustan won't be able to tell Charlie anything tangible even if he summons him!"

"I never realized it, my Lord. As I didn't know what was contained in the scroll before you read it. But either way, we could never be too sure. It's good I got a hold of it to stop whatever plans he was making."

"Get rid of the scroll," Keito hissed at his uselessness, "and get out of my sight."

"Sure, my lord."

As Hiva left his presence, he lit a fire from the tip of his finger and burned the scroll to ash, destroying it completely.

It was early in the morning when Charlie and Stacy set off for the safe house. He had been at watch over night, and made sure to see that the coast wasn't just clear, but they weren't being watched or followed by anyone.

After Stacy woke up and got ready, he made her some breakfast, and then he watched her eat as he tried not to laugh at how cute she looked in his bulky clothes. She had been wearing his clothes since she brought her here. Of course, he could just summon anything he wanted for her but he didn't want to miss the sight of her meat in his sac. Bad, bad Charlie.

Since he couldn't risk her going out, he would have to summon a new wardrobe for her when they reached the safe house.

After breakfast, she went to the bedroom and found a new set of clothes and a pair of shoes waiting for her.

"They're for you," Charlie said as he walked right in behind her. "You can try them on, they'll fit perfectly."

And they did.

After she had gotten ready, he lifted her in his arms and they took off. It was a very long journey, and they had been flying for hours. She wondered if he ever got tired from carrying her all around, as she knew she wasn't lightweight. Again, he's a demon. He probably would have carried a lot of things heavier than she was for longer periods. Quit asking questions and enjoy the ride, Stacy.

After what seemed like forever, they reached the island. It was sparsely populated and didn't have a lot of buildings. There were also a few villages. She wondered where the safe house would be. They then landed in a space in the middle of nowhere on the island.

"Where's the safe house?" She inquired, wondering why he'd stopped here.

"We are on it, it's underground," Charlie responded with a smile as he hid his wings.

He placed his hand on a large rock that had some words inscribed on it and suddenly, the ground began to shake. The space beside the rock leveled down and a flight of stairs appeared, leading to an underground passage. This place was truly built to hide and protect.

"Let's go," Charlie held his hand out to her and they both climbed down the stairs. They went many floors below until the last step led them to a closed door. He opened the small box that he took from the clan house and brought out the key, and within a matter of seconds, they had both entered inside the safehouse.

It was dark and it smelled like no one had been here for years. With the snap of Charlie's finger, the whole house lit up, and there before Stacy, stood the most beautiful underground mansion she had ever seen.

He had already prepared the place for her, it was a large house, with four big bedrooms and large living space. It had artificial lighting, but there were carefully crafted shielded spaces in the ceiling through which sunlight could enter. It also had a huge open-plan kitchen, a billiard room, a disco floor, and a spectacular movie theatre complete with its concession stand and snack bar. The mansion had a hot tub as well as a small study area. She was weakened by the breathtaking views the safehouse had to offer as he showed her around. Who knew that something as magical as this could be built under the ground?

"My family and I used to come here when I was younger. It was a great way for my parents to relax from all the pressures of the demon world."

"It's beautiful", Stacy remarked. "I've never seen anything so incredible in my life."

"There's plenty of stuff to do. I don't think you'll ever get bored here. You will get lonely but I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do about that. We can't trust anyone to stay with you for now but I promise I'll come to see you as often as I can. There's a strong barrier over the island, so you'll be safe as long as no one knows you're here. You can wander around but don't leave the house for too long. Don't bring anyone here and don't tell anyone where you live," he warned.

"So where are you headed now?"

"It's back to the clan house for me; I want to ask my father about the scroll. I know the person who stole it would have destroyed it by now but that only makes me more desperate to find the truth, there's probably something my grandfather knew that someone doesn't want me to find out about."
