Declan
Henley handed me back my phone just when the doorbell chimed. “Pizza’s here.” I jumped to my feet and headed toward the door.
“Here you go!” The pizza man handed me two pizzas, I gave him a bill, and he left with a massive smile. The pizza men were used to Trent and I tipping big. But Trent and I both knew the value of hard work since I was an oncologist, and he was a lawyer. Trent spent just as many long hours at the office as I did. I guessed that was why we made such good roommates over the years.
But I was sure Henley was no stranger to hard work, too. Luckily, her classes didn’t start until the fall, so we had all summer. It would be good for Henley to have something to do to occupy her time while I was working. But I was going to try not to spend quite so many hours at work from here on out. Now, I had a reason to come home.
“Anyone hungry?” I brought in the pizza and set it on the table, like I always did.
