CHAPTER 16: THE SUPER ORKUMAGA IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL.

It was early in the morning on Monday when Mr. Martins took Orkumaga to a very standard secondary school for him to be admitted after graduating from the Nursery school.... On reaching there, he was given a form to fill... His father Mr. Martins helped him in filling the form and when they finished, he took the form and submitted it in the office of the VP academy where incoming students were asked to submit.

When they all finished submitting the form, they were all told to come back again for exams and interviews after one week as they scheduled.

After one week, early in the morning on Saturday. As they were all told to go for the exams and interviews, Mr. Martins took Orkumaga to the school and when they arrived there, the principal of the school Mr. George instructed that all the incoming students should be assembled in the hall. After they all assembled, the principal Mr. George went in and told all of them that, they were going to write exam and also going to be interviewed but again explained that the interview would be after the exams.

He explained to them that for the interview, each and every one of the students would be interviewed alone.

The principal further explained to them that, the school had already prepared question papers for them to just tick the correct answers from the ABCD.

On the question papers, all the subjects were with 10 questions for them to answer.

After explaining everything to the students about the question papers, he advised them to read the instructions written on the question papers before beginning to write and also told them to feel free to ask any question as they writes the exams.

The principal again told them that, the time to commence the exams was already written on the question paper as it's was exactly 11Am to be submitted 12 PM...

The principal again informed them that, as they were about to write the exams and also to be interviewed, the results would be out in 2 weeks time....

He urge the students to come back and check their scores to know if they pass and also qualified to be given admission.

After explaining everything to the students, he gave them time to ask questions before commencing the exam but all the students said they were fine.

When he finished with the students, he went out and instructed the teachers to bring the questions papers to the students and they did immediately.

At exactly 11AM, they commenced writing exams and before 12 PM, Orkumaga was the first to finish answering the questions but was just sitting With it but when one of the teachers who were supervising the exams saw that he was no longer writing, he asked him why he was no longer writing but he told him that, he had already finished writing and from there, he was told to submit his paper and go out.

He immediately submitted his paper and went out to meet his father where he was waiting for him. When he reached where his father (Mr. Martins) was sitting, his father asked him how the exams was and he told him that it was excellent. But while he was still discussing with his father, all the students who were still writing exams finished and came out. After all the students had finished writing exam, they were given 20 minutes break to rest before they were all called again in the hall for the interview. Many teachers helped in interviewing the students as they were more than 200 students.

After calling many other students, Orkumaga was at last called by the VP academy Mr. Chucks. When he entered the Office, the VP academy Mr. Chucks asked him his name and he told him that, his name is Orkumaga Martins. When the VP academy Mr. Chucks saw that he answered while sitting down, he commanded him to standup. When he stood up, he began to tremble but the VP academy Mr. Chucks, said to him that, it's well.

Few minutes after telling Orkumaga that it's well, he sigh. Clearing his throat, The VP academy Mr chucks told Orkumaga that there were five questions in the interviews but he had already answered one and again,told him to be ready to answer the remaining four questions that were left but Orkumaga answered and told the VP academy Mr. Chucks that was ready.

The VP academy asked him if he likes finding troubles but he said no and again told him that, he is a quiet boy but doesn't like when someone finds his trouble. The VP academy Mr. Chucks again asked him another question if he plays when he should be studying and explained to him that, he meant both in the school and at home. Understanding the question very well, Orkumaga again told the VP academy that he does not play when he is supposed to read and also does his home work perfectly.

The VP academy Mr. Chucks said good and again, asked him the subjects he likes most but he answered and said to him that he likes all the subjects since he's going to write exams for all of them.

The VP academy Mr. Chucks. Haven been pleased with his answers, confessed to him that he has already proven to him that, he's a serious student and again, advised him to keep it up and then told him that his was off.

While Orkumaga was making his way out after thanking him, the VP academy Mr. Chucks called his name and when he turned, the VP academy Mr. Chucks gave him a thumb. He nodded his head and left the office and immediately his father drove him home.

2 weeks after writing the exam and the interview, Mr. Martins took Orkumaga to the school on the very day they were told to go and check their results.On reaching there, they went straight to the board where all the names were pasted with their scores from the highest to the lowest and Orkumaga scored 95/ 100 and so, his father Mr. Martins rejoiced and told him that, he's very proud of him.

While they were still waiting, the Principal of the school Mr. George summoned all the students in the hall and after thanking them, he gave them the list of the things they were to pay including school fees and also the uniforms were brought to them but were told to pay for it in the list they were given and again, the VP academy gave them one week to pay every thing before the resumption date and immediately they were dismissed to go to their various destinations.

One week, after paying and buying everything, Orkumaga was now set start school on the first day that was given for all the students to resume.

On the resumption day, after all the students were gathered on the assembly at exactly 8AM. All the staff of the school were summoned also.

The principal of the school Mr. George welcomed all the students and asked them how they were doing but they answered that they were all fine. The principal Mr. George introduced all the staffs of the school by their names and also their positions in the school.... Starting with himself as the Principal of the school, The VP Admin, VP academy, The Dean of Studies, the chief cashier and many others. When he finished introducing them to the students, he gave all of the staff opportunity to talk but only few of them had something to say. The VP academy and the VP Admin all welcomed the students and told them to study hard. When they finished welcoming the students, the principal Mr. George advised the students to be serious in their studies, both in the school and at home.

After he finished addressing the students, he directed all the form masters to take their students to their various classes and immediately, all were taken to their classes.

Few weeks into the school, one of the students named Peter Emeka started bullying Orkumaga.

He called him a dull student because of his quiet nature but Orkumaga being new into the school, and also because his father had warned him never to engage in a fight again in the school, he ignored him.

2months into the school, on Monday during break. Orkumaga went to the field with some of the students to play football.

While they were choosing players, Peter Emeka who was among the students that were choosing players ignored Orkumaga in his team but one of the students named Cyril chose him to join his team and they started playing.

Orkumaga was good in attack so he was chosen to play as a number 9 but as they were playing, each time he goes with the ball close to Peter Emeka who was playing as a defender, he would try to foul him but he ignored and kept playing his ball because of what his father had told him. He managed to play without even getting mad at Peter Emaka but at the end, his team won the match.

The whole thing pained the students that were in the team that was chosen by the bully Peter Emeka to the extent they all became furious for losing to Orkumaga's team but non of them said a word to him until they went inside the class after the break.

While they were still waiting for their teacher who was supposed to have a lesson with them immediately after break, the bully Peter Emeka with all his group left their seats and joined Orkumaga on the desk he was sitting.

Some sat on the other desks that were closed to him. So, they started insulting and calling him the dullest student. He ignored them at first but it became too much, he asked them why they were insulting him and the bullies said to him that, it's because of his empty skull. He still controlled himself after recalling what his father Mr. Martins had told him.

While they kept on insulting him, the whole class divided and also became very noisy....Few were hailing the bullies while others were supporting Orkumaga.

The whole class became rambunctious but while the whole class was in the state of higgledy- higgledy, Mrs. Evelyn, their class teacher who was also the form mistress of the class on her way going into the class room, heard the noise and rushed to the class but before she entered, the whole class room became quiet but because she had already heard the noise, she commanded the whole class to stand up. When they stood up, she asked who were the students making noise in the class but none of them said a word. She commanded them again to knee down and raise their hands up. They all knelt down and raised their hands but when one of the students who were against what the other students were doing to Orkumaga got tired, he told Mrs. Evelyn that she had something to say...

Mrs. Evelyn on hearing that, asked her to stand up and come to the cloak of the class and say what he had to say and he immediately stood up and moved to the front. Mrs. Evelyn now told her to go ahead and say it. after looking at all the students faces, he called the names of the students that started bullying Orkumaga and explained everything.

After he finished, Mrs. Evelyn called all the students to stand and then told the ones that were bullying Orkumaga to Knee down and immediately used her cane to beat them, giving each 5 stroke of cane and again, warned all the students in the class to be careful.

After beating them and giving them warnings, she suggested that there's a need for a class monitor. When all the students heard that, they all agreed but then, she asked them who they preferred to be their class monitor among them and almost more than half of the class shouted Orkumaga's name. Mrs. Evelyn again called Orkumaga to come up and stand in front of the whole students and while the other students who were beaten were still on their knees, she announced Orkumaga as the class monitor. All the students started clapping and hailing their monitor. The students who were bullying him, while still on their knees hiding themselves in shame. Mrs. Evelyn now told all the students to respect Orkumaga as their class monitor and also warned them that, any students that would disrespect him, such a student's name would be sorry. But while still on it, she asked the students who were on punishment to stand and apologize to Orkumaga and the whole class apologized immediately. After apologizing to Orkumaga, she told all the bullies to go and sit down but warned again this time clearly that, any one of them that would talk back against Orkumaga, the student would be punished.

When she finished talking with the students, she told Orkumaga that, she would provide a book for him to be able to write down the names of the noise makers and also, for those that would disrespect him.

After she finished putting the whole class in order, she left the class immediately and from that very moments, all the students started falling in love with Orkumaga except those that were in the same group bullying him.

Orkumaga who was now given charge of the class stood up and told all his class mates that he's not a vile person and also assured them of being nice to them for trusting in him but explained to them again that, they are all in the school to study and that's the most important thing. He again explained that all the students that hates him are just hating an innocent person.

But while he was still addressing his class mates, the whole class started making noise again. Some were against him because they felt that, he was insulting them but he calmed the whole class by commanding them to keep quiet and immediately, all the students shushed up. The whole class became quiet through out the day and at exactly 2PM the school was closed.

He kept doing his work as he was instructed by the class teachers to the extent that, most of the prefects and teachers in the school started respecting him even though he was just in JSS1. Actually he was still a junior student. All his class mates envied him and because of the envy, Peter Emeka and his group hated him with all their heart and the hatred towards him made them planned evil against him.... They all agreed to deal with him. So, on that particular evening.... after they were done with the evening lesson that was fixed by one of their teachers. While they were on the way going, Peter Emeka and some of the students who were in the same group that planned to deal with Orkumaga stopped in an uncompleted building and called his name and when he swerved to the side his name was called, he saw Peter Emeka and some of his mates that hated him.

Although he knew that, the call was not a friendly one, he still responded and asked them why they were calling his name but one of the students who was not seen with them told him that,they were only calling to talk to him because of the little misunderstanding they had with him. They pleaded with Orkumaga to come but because he knew their plans, he declined that he doesn't want their troubles. Seen that they were pleading, His friend James Duke told him that, they had to go and listen to what they wanted to say then he gave in and went to where they were seated waiting for him. As they entered, they saw peter Emeka was who the kingpin of the group shouted and called Orkumaga block headed Idiot and also said to him that, he thought he was not scared of them but Orkumaga remembering what his father told him about fighting in the school, turned to his friend James Duke and told him that, it was the reason he was refusing to come. James Duke, after hearing that, told Orkumaga to calm down and again, convinced him that, nothing was going to happen but Orkumaga, again said to him that, he knows what he's saying. when all the students who were with Peter Emeka heard that, they shouted and asked James Duke "What the heck will you do if something happen you this nonce"? Both of them ignored the question and again, Orkumaga said to his friend James Duke that " We have to go before I vex with these Nitwits" But immediately Peter Emeka and his group heard that, their faces became red, they rushed Orkumaga and his friend. Peter Emeka jacked Orkumaga on his shirt, commanding him to knee down while the other students were busy rushing James Duke. But while James Duke was about Kneeling down, Orkumaga yelled and and told his friend James Duke not to knee down.

When they all heard, they rushed Orkumaga. Orkumaga, at that point got mad and called his father's name (Mr. Martins) 3 times and said that he's sorry for disobeying him as he couldn't take it anymore and after saying that, he pointed his finger that had the powerful ring that was given to his mother by the old man in the river to fix on it at them and all of them felled instantly and became unconscious.

While they were still down, many of the students who also attended the evening lesson while watching them stood there heralding his name but Orkumaga, without wasting time, clasped his friend James Duke's hand and ran out of the place. The following day, the whole news spread all over the town but he kept it to himself without telling is parent and went to school. When he reached the school, during assembly, the principal and all the other school authorities who were occasionally coming on the assembly gathered and after singing the national Anthem and prayers, the Principal Mr. George called Orkumaga and Peter to step forward. Orkumaga and Peter Emeka now stepped forward and stood in front of the students on the assembly and again, the principal Mr. George told the students why Orkumaga and Peter Emeka were called up. After he finished telling the student what he was told, he asked Orkumaga and Peter Emeka to tell them and the students what happened yesterday in the evening themselves but Peter Emeka, knowing he was at fault, kept mute and then bent his head down. After waiting for few minutes, Orkumaga now cleared his throat and began to narrate the story from how it started. He explained the whole story how Peter Emeka started hating him without any reason from day one into the class and even called one of the teachers Mrs. Evelyn as his witness and immediately, she was also called to come and say what he met the students doing to Orkumaga as she was called by Orkumaga as his witness. The teacher Mrs. Evelyn who was already there explained how she also met Peter Emeka and his group bullying him. Orkumaga not knowing they were fully convinced, called some of his class mates as also his witness to testify if he was fabricating. He further narrated the current incident how he was going home with his friend James Duke after the evening lesson when Peter Emeka and his group called him but he refused to go. Even as they used some of the students that speaks friendly to him to convince him, he still refused to go knowing how much they hate him. He kept refusing to go but his friend James Duke convinced him to go and when he went there, the next thing Peter Emeka did was to insult him and threatened him but he kept quiet. When they saw that he was not talking, they turned to his friend James Duke. As they were all insulting and saying horrible things, he still nonetheless ignored them because, his father warned him never to fight with a student in the school. So, even when Peter Emeka clenched him on his clothes, he was still not strident. But when it became too much for him, he vexed and....(stammering).The principal Mr. George and most of the teachers who were interested in the story asked him "And What" Then he again said that he made them sleep for him to leave with his friend because he never wanted to fight them. When he finished explaining the whole story, the VP academy asked him how he was able to make them sleep but he explained and told them that, he doesn't know how it happened. The principal now asked his colleagues if they had any thing to say before he will proceed and the VP academy Mr. Chucks said he had something to say but suggested that, all the students involved should be called up and immediately they were called to step forward.

When they all moved forward, the VP academy Mr. Chucks said that Mrs. Evelyn as the first witness had already admitted about what transpired in the class as true.

He again asked James Duke if what Orkumaga had said is true and he also agreed. Again Mr. Chucks asked the students who were with Peter Emeka if what they said is true and they all agreed and. As they all agreed, he told the principal Mr. George that he's free to go on with his judgment and immediately the principal Mr. George thanked him and continued...

He told Orkumaga to go and bring his parents and again, told Peter Emeka and his group to bring their parents along with them as they come to school the following morning and from there, all the students were told to go back to their classes as they now set for the Judgement in the following day.
