Born Better

I still have no clue as to why I thought this would be a good idea, But just so you know, I didn't wake up one day and suddenly decide to make a choice that would undoubtedly disrupt the balance of nature. It's not like I purposely made up my mind to complete step one in a plan that could end all life on earth as we know it, But that's what happened, anyway. Now, as I lay on the ground and look up at the dark night sky, I realize... I messed up.

Chapter 3 : Re-Esme

"Say whatever it is you have to, so I can move on with my day," Faye, also known as the hero, Cryptic told the redhead leaning against the door, successfully blocking the entrance to the lounge. "I hadn't the patience for your bullshit."

The lounge, as they call it, is a very large piece of the agency dedicated solely to the S-Class; it's where they work, eat, and more often than not, sleep.

"I didn't think you were the type to lose your cool so easily," Re-Esme said, stepping aside so Faye could enter.

Re-Esme Ester Falls-Kunzite is the 22-year-old S-Class hero known as Inferna. She stands at 5'7 with fiery red hair that tumbles down her back in waves, with piercing amber eyes, Freckles sprinkle across her nose and cheeks.

"How is my temper any of your concern?" Melissa asked.

"Are you acting like this because of Nathaniel~"

"No. What do you what, Re-Esme?"

"How'd you get her to come back, what did you say?" the redhead asked, straightening her posture.

"Careful, jealousy isn't a good look for you," Faye started, watching as Re-Esme cringed at her words. "You had the chance to go and get her yourself, but you refused. Not to mention, I don't owe you any explanation," she finished, getting ready to walk off. 'Like hell if I'm going to stand here and argue over Èlucidé.'

"I-"

"Re-Esme, she's in the building, go ask her yourself," Faye cut her off.

Re-Esme walked down the corridors in a hurry, trying to find Èlucidé. She couldn't find any trace of her, nor could she sense Èlucidé, and the thought of what that could mean unnerved her. "Did she leave already? Can she leave?"

"Re-Esme?" Èlucidé uttered as Re-Esme turned to leave the roof, thinking she had searched it thoroughly, turning around fully to meet the gaze belonging to the white-haired woman she'd been looking for, "help me up?"

The girl was barely clinging to the ege of the roof. Had she climed all the way up here?

Re-Esme couldn't help the deep frown that formed on her face as she stared at her ex girlfriend of five years ago. Her hair is a pristine shade of white, cascading down her back like a shimmering waterfall. Her eyes, a piercing shade of blue, seem to hold the secrets of the universe within their depths.

A mix of various emotions ran through her entire being as the reality of their reunion finally set in. Re-Esme didn't answer her ex, but she did move to help her, taking in her appearance as she did, and she had to admit, after only a couple of years apart, Èlucidé had changed a lot; only those piercing cold blue eyes remained the same. Èlucidé no longer kept her hair short,

She now stands 5'8 roughly, with sharp, elf-like ears and gracefully filed long nails. Notably, sharp incisors and despite these new unique features, she remains breathtakingly beautiful.

"Èlucidé..." the pyrotechnic finally began after a long period of silence, "Do you have any idea the trouble we had to go through to find you?!"

"I wasn't aware that I was lost."

The frown on Re-Esme's face deepened, "This isn't funny," she said, still unable to understand why her ex-girlfriend had left as abruptly as she did.

The younger girl leveled a hard stare of her own, "Am I laughing?" she asked in a darker tone, surprising Re-Esme, "Do you have any idea why I left in the first place?"

"Does that matter? You abandoned your family and friends and all the people who care about you and disappeared for five years without a word."

Èlucidé sighed and had to resist the urge to roll her eyes. Though at the same time, she couldn't say she was surprised that Re-Esme didn't know what had actually happened between herself and Jack, nor did Èlucidé think Re-Esme would believe her if she told her what actually happened. Re-Esme's faith in the director almost exceeded that of her faith in her own mother.

Shaking her head, Èlucidé refocused on the older woman, "Honestly, you can think whatever you want, Re-Esme. I don't have time for whatever this is."

"Fine." Re-Esme finished, leaving. Sticking her hands in her pants pockets, she headed towards her room.
