I couldn't believe I just had a conversation with Vincent Sinclair. An actual conversation with complete words and full sentences. 'OH MY GOD! That just happened.'
For the rest of the day, I couldn't keep the smile off my face.
The day passed by quickly. I was too caught up in my happy little bubble to pay attention to anything. It was only when I pulled into my driveway that I slowly began to come back to reality. I hopped out of my car and headed to my front door. Before entering my house I looked around, goosebumps appearing on my skin. Something felt off, and everything seemed way too quiet for my liking.
Looking around one last time, I shook my head. 'Relax, stop freaking yourself out over nothing Sage.' Taking a deep breath I walked into my house. "My lovely, charming, and most awesome-est mother, in the whole wide world! Your beautiful daughter is home!" I sang out to my mother, dropping my bag by the couch I awaited her response.
Nothing. Complete silence.
Weird. "Mom! Are you home?" Still no response. 'Did she go out?' I walked to the kitchen first, then the library, the backyard, and my father's office, just in case, and still no mom. Walking into the living room I plopped down onto the couch. Pulling out my phone, I called my mother. The phone rang until her answering machine picked up. "Well now I'm worried, let's try dad."
Me: Daddio, moms not home or answering. Did she have to leave?
I sent a message to my dad before grabbing my bag and heading upstairs to change. Swapping my clothes out for an old t-shirt and some shorts, I skipped back downstairs to the living room. Grabbing my phone again, I read my dad's reply back,
Great Big Papa Bear: Sorry hunny, your mother and I had to go into the next town over for a business trip. We'll be back in 2 days. Don't destroy the house. Luv U.
I stared at my dad's message for at least five minutes. Did they, actually leave me? Alone. For two days.
YES! I jumped up from my couch and started to dance. "No parents, oh yeah. No parents, yeah right. No parents, aw yeahh!" I sang happily as I moved around my living room. "No school for Sage! No school for me! No school for Sage!!" I was busting out all my greatest dance moves when my phone went off again. Pausing my one-woman show, I checked to see who it was.
Great Big Papa Bear: You still have to go to school tomorrow Sage.
How did he know? I groaned while replying, but...but...I don't wanna. Can I stay at home, please? PLEASE! I'll love you forever. I'll love you FIVEEVER!
Great Big Papa Bear: You love me anyway. The answer is still the same. Make sure you're in school tomorrow Sage. Stay safe, I'll call you in the morning.
I collapsed ungracefully on the floor, my phone clattering on the hard surface beside me. My life was in shambles. I felt myself spiraling into despair. I laid there on my living room floor for hours, trying to find the will to get up and push forward. I was alone. My parents were willingly throwing me to the wolves. How could they! This betrayal is too much. Everything is too much! Please, won't anyone save me from this darkne…
Demi Lovato's Sorry Not Sorry interrupted my monologue. Picking it up, I accepted the call and spoke, "what goes on?"
Ivy's response was muffled a bit, "bored out of my mind. What about you?"
"I was in the middle of a dramatic monologue."
"Oh? What happened now?"
"Parents left for a meeting. Not anything new. But I'm home alone. And I have to go to school."
"Soooo, you still have to be a normal high school student. You poor child."
"See! You get me! My world is crumbling...the absolute despair I feel is all-consuming and pulling me und-"
"Please...for the love of everything good. Stop! You are WAY too overdramatic. Just start cooking something and I'm going to get dressed."
"I will ignore you interrupting my fabulous monologue again since you are coming over. Broiled Salmon with rice and broccoli sound good?"
"Sounds great. Later gator."
"See you in a whie, crocidile."
Grabbing an aluminum pan and taking the salmon out of the fridge, I started seasoning the fish. Besides painting and drawing, cooking was the only other thing I was good at.
My mom called me a natural. My dad just loved a good meal to eat and I loved the feeling of creating. Putting the seasoned fish into the oven, I grabbed some rice and broccoli and began cooking them on the stove. Once everything was in the process of being cooked I hopped up on the kitchen island. Enjoying the silence blanketing my house and losing myself in another daydream.
Only a few minutes pass by, I'm blissfully daydreaming and waiting for the food to be done when I heard a crash. Freaked out, I jumped off the counter. 'What was that…' Walking out of my kitchen, I checked the living room first before making my way to the back of the house. 'Please don't be an ax murderer, please don't be an ax murderer!' I peeked my head into my father's office and everything looked the same as always. 'Ok. Now to check the study..' As I approached the study, a chilling sensation ran down my spine. 'PLEASE don't be an ax murderer!' As I put my hand on the door, I started to turn the knob to open it when a knock on the front door caused me to jump and I let go of the knob.
"I'm going to have a heart attack before I turn 18.." I said to no one as I walked back to the front of the house. Before I opened the door I calmed my, still slightly accelerated, heartbeat some more.
Opening the door revealed a very cold-looking Ivy, "what took you so long? It's freezing out here." She asked as she stepped inside the house.
"My bad, I was in the back. Buuuuut, to make it up to you, the food is almost ready." I told her as I walked back to the kitchen, turning off the stove for the rice and broccoli.
"Mmm, you are already forgiven." Ivy follows me into the kitchen dropping her bag on the floor next to the island she hops onto the countertop. "Soooo, what's cookin' good lookin'?"
"You...absolutely did not just do that." I turned to look at her.
"Yes, yes I did." She gave me a cheeky smile.
I shook my head at her while taking the salmon out of the oven. "Grab some plates and forks crazy lady."
"Aye, Aye!" She saluted and jumped off the counter. Setting down the plates, we both grabbed some food and headed back into the living room.
"Vampires or Werewolves?" Ivy asked as we got comfortable on the couch.
"Hm.. hard choice." I pondered for a bit. "Vampires."
"The Originals, it is then." She went to Netflix and we settled together with our food.
