Chapter 29

LEXI POV

"What did he want?"

I feel him before he even comes into the cafeteria, but I foolishly hoped he'd leave me alone while I was with friends.

Apparently not.

"It's nothing."

Kian pinches the bridge of his nose, trying to maintain his calm façade, though I can feel the anger that bubbles beneath the surface. It twists sharply in my chest when I refuse to give a straight answer.

"I'm not joking Alex."

Kian grabs my arm, pulls me up and leads me from the cafeteria.

"Lex," Z calls.

'It's okay,' I mouth.

'Five minutes,' he signs back. 'Then I'm coming to get you.'

Kian has a negative energy surrounding him as he pulls me along.

There aren’t many students wandering about the halls due to the time, but the few that are stop to stare at Kian. Then their gaze turns to me.

The weather is too warm for a hoodie now so I have nothing to hide behind. I have to hope he won't notice my badly covered bruises and the developing muscle.

"Where are we going?"
