Chapter 37: Narrow Escape

Katie’s POV

“Keep yourself close to me,” Diego quietly demanded as he pulled my body closer to his.

My body was alight with a flurry of sensations and had been since he pulled me away from that crazed maniac in the garden. But I wasn’t completely distracted from the questions that captivated my mind. I trusted Diego implicitly.

“Diego…” I started.

“Shh,” Diego interrupted me as he pulled me out of the small pantry that we were hiding in.

My heart beat erratically inside of my chest as Diego pulled himself up to his tallest. He was intimidating, with his stone mask fully fastened on his face, dressed in his tuxedo that somehow still remained pristine considering all of the hiding, and other things that had occurred.

Diego kept me locked into his side. His strong arm that was wrapped around my shoulders dropped down to a firm hold on my waist. The angle of it naturally drew me to wrap my arms around his waist, tucking my head into his side.
