Chapter 8: Secrets of the Academy

Team Unison developed a routine of practice and bonding as the weeks went by. Hiroshi, Masumi, and Kaito's friendship became stronger every day, and their ability to work together in battle got better. They were left with more questions than answers, however, as the mysteries surrounding the academy grew more complex.

Kaito disrupted the hushed atmosphere that had descended upon the team during practice one crisp morning as the academy's courtyard glistened in the golden brightness of the rising sun.

Have any of you ever wondered why the academy keeps our spirit animals such a secret? Kaito sent a burst of wind to stir the leaves of a neighboring tree as he spoke with a hint of interest.

Masumi and Hiroshi looked at each other and appeared to be debating the issue. They had always been left to speculative about the origins and importance of the academy's spirit animals.

Eventually saying, "It's true," Hiroshi kept his attention on the far-off mountains. The spirits that reside inside of us have never been clearly explained to us by them. We only know that they are a part of us and direct our abilities.

Masumi nodded in agreement as she traced an arrow's feathers resting against her thigh with her fingers. "I've only heard vague rumors; nothing concrete. Others think that our spirits are simply outward representations of our inner self, while some claim that they are the remains of extinct beings.

Their theories were cut short as their guru Jiro showed up. As a silent sentinel, his lion spirit ambled alongside him.

Jiro said, "Interesting conversation you're having," in a rich, resonant voice. Even from its most talented students, the institution keeps some facts hidden for good reason.

Masumi, Kaito, and Hiroshi shared a short glance as their interest was sparked. Maybe they could finally solve the puzzles surrounding their spirit animals if their mentor knew something.

"We understand, Master Jiro," Hiroshi said politely. But as we gain a greater understanding of our spirits, the more effectively we can use their strgenth.

Jiro gave a serious nod as he turned to look at the distance. "Very good. The academy's library has some old books that might have the answers. But access is limited and they are closely guarded.

Masumi adjusted her hold on her bow with a glimmer of determination in her eyes. "Master Jiro, we will find a solution. As a team, we are Team Unison.

It was unusual to witness their mentor's lion spirit appear to smile. "Your greatest strengths are your cohesion and resolve. But keep in mind that information has two sides. Some information is hidden for a reason.

Jiro turned and started guiding them back to their practice area after saying those cryptic remarks. The group's united objective of learning the mysteries of their spirit animals brought them together despite the fact that they were aware that their journey would not be simple.

As they started their training again, they couldn't help but wonder what secrets the academy's ancient manuscripts held, and how those secrets may change the way they perceived the world.
