The burning sensation in Trisha's eyes could be felt round my body. I was well prepared for whatever she was going to say when we got home. I seriously didn't know why she had a problem with coming to the hospital for a solution to get a child, but all I knew was that we needed one after three years of being married.
She glimpsed at me with her angry eyes, and immediately turned back to staring at the doctor. Her actions made me so sad, but at the point we were, I had decided to tolerate her attitude no matter what would happen.
Being barren wasn't a good thing at all, especially the fact that we could buy anything that needed money to pay for. How could a billionaire possibly not have an heir? So upsetting.
"This is your final result." The doctor cleared his throat, and stretched a packaged envelope to me.
I jerked out of my thoughts immediately, and grabbed it from him with alacrity. I needed to know our long annoying problem. I only hoped it wasn't a bad result.
I unsealed the envelope, and removed the test result paper from it. On viewing it, I couldn't fathom what was typed on it. I understood it, but disbelief made me confused.
I nodded my head in puzzlement, and turned back to the doctor. "Sir." I called as I knitted my brows at him. "I'm not sure I understand this."
"Understand what?" Trisha huffed loudly from her seat, which made me turn to her. "What do you ever understand? How would you understand a test result, if you don't understand your own wife?"
She hissed, and turned back to the doctor, creasing her arms across her chest, obviously boiling in enragement.
I shook my head due to her unending stubbornness, and focused my gaze on the doctor. "Explain this further." I requested calmly.
He dropped his pen on the table, and removed his eye glasses as well, clearing his throat again.
"Well you see," He started his explanation. "The thing is that your wife is infertile. That's just it."
"Infertile?" My confusion increased. "I'm not sure I get that at all."
"All I'm saying is that Mrs Flores is infertile. She can't conceive a child." He repeated himself, sharply.
I chuckled in nervousness. If she was infertile, that meant that she couldn't conceive a child, speaking of giving birth to one for me. How was that even possible? Did that mean that I wasn't going to have a child?
"H--how's that possible?" I faltered, feeling so terrible already. "What could be the cause for it? Is there something we can do?"
He sighed. "According to the test we underwent, Mrs Flores womb cannot conceive a child. And that is as a result of the amount of abortions she had undergone in the past."
"Abortions?" I whined in shock, leaning forward to the table. "I've been with my wife since ten years ago, and I'm so sure she hasn't had an abortion since then."
The doctor turned to Trisha, seeming tired of my continuous disagreement. "Let your wife confirm that first. You can't conclude on that. She's the one who has had the abortions."
I gulped in, and turned to Trisha. There was no way she could have aborted so much in that period. I didn't even think she had had any abortion at all. She was only fourteen years old when we met each other.
As I stared at her, she didn't take a turn to me. At the same time, she looked hesitant and scared. Was the doctor right? That meant that she had killed the children I ought to have had.
She finally turned to me, and pouted like a child. "Jace." She called, moving forward and holding my hands. "I can explain this. All of it was right before we got married."
"What?" I widened my eyes in shock. "How could you seriously have had 'abortions' within that short period? Alright. Tell me now. How many abortions in total?"
She lowered her head to look at the floor, and bit her lower lips like she was scared. Her actions frightened me a little. What if it was above two? Did it mean that she had been killing all the children I ought to have had?
"Tell me now." I demanded, starting to frown at her.
"W--well…" She stammered, turning gently to me. "About six or seven."
I gawked, and gasped involuntarily. "You've killed seven of my children?! Oh my God! What are you made of?! How could you do something that heartless? You killed those innocent children?!' I hollered on the top of my voice.
Instead of showing a worry look, she folded her brows like she was trying to grasp something. "Your children?" She said, and immediately bugged her eyes out like she realized something. "Yes!" She cried. "Your children. I mean...yes. No no…I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. It wasn't intentional. I'm sorry. My father could have killed me then." She uttered unstably.
I had to admit, something was wrong with her. Or, was it that…
"Calm down please." The doctor interrupted us from the argument that was about to happen. "There's no point in that. An argument would do nothing to solve this"
I frowned at her, and faced the doctor again. "This isn't something good, doctor. Does it mean I'll never have a child? Isn't there a solution? Isn't there a way you can do something to my wife? Like, inject her with some kind of fertility medicine? " I interrogated wearily.
"Come down Mr Flores." He said. "It can't work that way. Her uterus is completely damaged for an embryo. And even if she conceives one, it'll only end up being an ectopic pregnancy, which can cost her life."
I ran my fingers through my hair, and leaned my back against my seat. "Oh goodness." I exhaled heavily. "Why does this have to happen to me? Why?"
"Alright." The doctor mentioned, causing me to flinch back to him. "Since her womb is damaged, she also can't undergo an 'in vitro fertilization'." He informed us.
" I mentioned breathlessly. "What is the solution then? Tell me please."
"The only thing you can do right now is to get a surrogate mother. That's the only solution." He avowed.
As soon as he said that, a sudden joy overwhelmed me. I was almost giving up already, but he saved me.
I was about to thank him for his suggestion, when Trisha scoffed loudly from my side.
"No. Way." She averred keenly from her seat.
I flared my nose in so much disgust, and slowly turned to her. Surprisingly, she was already glowering at me like I was. This lady sincerely didn't know how I was craving for a child. If she thought I was going to listen to her this time around, she was definitely deceiving herself.
