That night, in the grand, dimly lit mansion of the Wang family, Lou had already fallen asleep after returning from her ballet class. She'd skipped a heavy dinner, instead opting for an avocado smoothie and a handful of nuts her grandmother had prepared—always conscious of her appearance.
Mrs. Wang sat in the drawing room, her eyes drifting to the clock as she awaited her husband's return. When she heard the familiar click of the front door, she glanced up expectantly, only to see him enter alone.
"Where's Olivia?" she asked, her brow furrowing.
Mr. Wang set his briefcase down, loosening his tie with a weary sigh. "She needed a break. Let her be."
Mrs. Wang nodded, taking his coat in silence, hanging it with practiced precision on the hallway rack.
