Chapter One.

Olivia's pov

I sighed in satisfaction as the cold breeze came in contact with my skin, blowing my long blonde hair aside. I dragged the tan box I was holding firmly down the stairs, with my mom and my only sister whose name is Mia, footsteps being heard behind my back, at last, we have eventually landed in Alaska, "What a good day to move to my apartment"  I whispered under my breath.

"Olivia, won't you buy me a Santa mask before I go back to Texas today?" Mia's tiny voice dragged me out of my thoughts, I flinched a little before turning back to look at her, my mom was just standing still on a spot without saying a word, with a smile forming on her pink lips.

" Mia, we just arrived. We still have time to do all your mini shopping" I cooed slowly, rumbling her brunette hair a little .It's very funny how my hair is blonde, while her hair is black.

Her eyes widened, " Really? I want that one"  she pointed to a particular boy who is a bit taller than her among the crowd, he was walking hand in hand with an old lady, holding on to the mask that my sister just fell in love with.

I smiled, " Don't worry, I will get you everything" I used my hand to draw an invisible box in the air, and we both laughed. I looked at my mom suspiciously, she hadn't said a word since we left Texas, even when I tried to start a conversation with her when we were on board, all she did all the time was just to flash me a weak smile.

Is something wrong? Is she missing me already? That's not possible, I chuckled at the thought.

"Rachel, I don't know why you are given me this silent treatment," I paused a little, studying her expression, I usually call her by her name whenever I wanted to grab her attention as soon as possible,

" Or, don't tell me you are missing me already" I teased. I watched Mia from the corner of my eyes as she walked to the Brown box that was lying beside me, she grabbed its handle, struggling on a spot as she continued in trying to lift it.

My lips formed into a purse.

" Missing you is an understatement, I'm missing you already" my mom's voice made me divert my attention back to her. " Really?" I whined, trying to act surprised all of a sudden. She rolled her eyes at me.

I feel so proud of the kind of bonds that exist between my mom and me. Since the death of my father which happened a year after the birth of Mia, I have been the only companion my mom has, her best buddy and her best friend at the same time. Nothing like secrets exist between us, sometimes people that didn't know me before find it hard to believe that she is not my Elder sister, but my mom. I just want to do anything that will make her feel on top of the world. Throughout my college, I made sure I always stick around her, to prevent her from thinking about anything.

How I wish my dad was still alive, if not for the..... I abruptly shook my head a little, trying to dislodge the thought out of my head. I don't like where my thoughts are heading to.

I frowned a little, but I  know that my face was poorly disguised.

"I promise to visit you always, besides, if you want me to be coming every weekend, you know I will gladly do that"

" It's fine, let's just get out of this place first, before people start to think we entered the wrong plane" she joked, and I laughed loudly.

" Mia let me help you with that". I slowly dragged the box away from her hand, she is so stubborn for a seven years old girl. I dragged the handle a bit to make it a little longer before I then proceeded towards the airport entryway.

Deep down, I don't want to leave my mom and Mia alone, but my mom would never welcome the idea even if I stood my ground.

I just finished college a few months ago and this time around last month I was employed by a telecommunications company. I told my mom to allow me to work in my dad's company since they can easily find a post to put me in, but she refused because of a reason only known to her, and she is not ready to tell me anytime soon. I received my letter of appointment two weeks ago, that's when I knew I was posted to Alaska. I tried to decline the offer at first but my mom didn't support the idea, but here she is,  saying she will miss me when she was actually the person responsible for all this. Anyway, I believe this is the best thing for me, if not, she would never agree to let go of me easily when there are tons of alternatives.

Mia pointed to nothing less than 10 different masks before we eventually walked through the exit door. The waiting area was crowded like I guessed it would be since tomorrow is Christmas anyway. It didn't take us that long before we noticed a black man, standing behind a black jeep with cardboard that had my mom's name written on it.

I waved my hand at him, after some seconds of swirling my hand in the air continuously, he eventually looked at our side. His face turned pale immediately his eyes landed on us like he was in a big mess because of not noticing us earlier. He removed his face cap, and then rushed to the driver's seat.

" Is that our driver?" Mia asked as she dipped some chips into her mouth, chewing it loudly. I nodded.

He made a quick U-turn towards us. After finding a perfect spot to park the car. He came down, twirling the key with one of his fingers.

" I'm very sorry, ma. I don't know why I find it hard to notice you immediately" he muttered apologetically, he bowed his head a little bit.

" It's fine, don't make a fuss about something that is not even worth apologising for" she flashed him a weak smile. He quickly walked to me, and gently picked the box that was standing beside me and put it at the back of the jeep. I quickly reached for the door, not wanting the driver to rush back to us and do that for us again.

At last, the three of us are now sitting in the back seat. The black driver also hopped in and put the car engine to life, and we embarked on the journey to my new apartment.
