After the party, Marissa decides not to go with Luke to the dance, so she decides not to go.
In the lounge, I comment to Summer, "Summer, have you talked to Marissa yet? It's a shame she's missing out on everything after all the effort she's put into it."
"Yeah, I've already called her. She's finally coming with Ryan," she says, smiling because she knows it's the best thing for Marissa.
"So, only one thing left to do," I say, planning my next move. "Anna! Do you remember me?" I call out to the short-haired girl.
"Sure, you were with Ryan the other day," Anna replies.
"Yeah, exactly. Looks like you got your date taken away, but lucky for you, I already found you a much better one." I wink at her. "There you go," I say as I see Seth sitting brooding in the corner. "Come with me."
As we approach, I clear the way for Seth. "He's a sweet, nice, respectful boy. You'll like him."
"Yeah, if I know him..." she starts.
"Perfect then."
Arriving, Anna asks Seth to be her escort. Seth starts to flinch, then Anna says, "Trust, Cohen."
Seeing the sparks in this relationship, I go to escort my partner, who is near Marissa as she stops Luke from trying to fight Ryan. Luke then breaks up with her.

We are all dressed and ready to go. All the girls are introduced. Anna goes out with her dad and meets Seth. Marissa goes out with her dad and then joins Ryan.
"Summer Roberts, daughter of Neil Roberts," the announcer calls.
Summer, in a spectacular white dress, appears next to Dr. Roberts. I bow ceremoniously, and she grabs my arm. We walk down the stairs and join the other debutantes.
We all dance to the music until an enraged man punches Marissa's father in the jaw, knocking him to the floor, to the surprise of everyone present. Sandy tries to pull Greg away from Jimmy but gets punched in the jaw. Ryan attacks Greg next and stops him. As other attendees push Greg away from the scene, he yells to everyone that Jimmy is a thief.
Seth tells Ryan and me that he will take Anna home. Seth discovers that Anna will be sailing to Tahiti, his lifelong dream, for the summer.
"You know you guys like each other, don't you?" I comment as I look at Seth.
"Don't be silly..." he says, lowering his head and grabbing his neck. Then he walks off with more confidence with Anna.

A few days later, after a bad party in Long Beach, Seth and Ryan return with the SUV dented and full of graffiti.
"Wow, Seth, that's a nice-looking car you got. It's got style," I taunt him as I drive in front of his house.
"Come on, Alex, stop teasing," he says, exasperated that his dad made him clean it. "By the way, party tonight, you in?"
"I guess. I'll ask Summer if she's going. By the way, how's it going with Anna?" I ask curiously.
"Good... things happened..." he says, blushing.
"Well, send me the place and time, and I'll confirm later," I say as I press the accelerator.

At the party, Summer turns down Donnie, a guy who works with Ryan, but he won't leave her alone. Summer decides to tease him to keep him away from her, which angers Donnie. Seth sees this happening and tries to persuade Donnie to leave. Donnie has other plans and shows Seth the gun he has with him.
I was in the bathroom. When I come out, Seth comes in and tells me the situation.
"Ok, thanks, man, I owe you big time."
I grab my cell phone and text Jacob. Alex: "Dangerous situation, firearm. Come with two more, ready for the worst. Come in unseen." Jacob: "Copy that."
After this, I go to Summer and tell her about the situation. I tell her to come to me and not to plead until my bodyguards arrive.
"You're going to be shocked at the following, but keep in mind I don't normally carry it. But with Seth's car, I knew some badass people were coming, but I didn't know at this level."
I say as I gently pull up the shirt I was wearing over my t-shirt and reveal an M&P Bodyguard holstered in a shoulder holster.
"Ok... Alex, I trust you."
Back at the party, Holly (a girl trying to pick up Luke) is hanging out with Luke when they hear what sounds like glass breaking. Holly comes downstairs and sees Donnie and his friends destroying her kitchen. She tries to stop Donnie before Luke intervenes.
Tensions begin to rise between Donnie and Luke. Seth tries to stop them both. Luke tries to kick Donnie out of the party when Ryan arrives. Seth tells Ryan that they should leave when Luke tells Donnie to go back to the trailer park. Luke decides to fight Donnie when he pulls out his gun. They all run away as Donnie threatens Luke with the gun. "Get in the back," I say softly to Summer as I lead her to the kitchen island, so she can't get hurt by a stray bullet.
Crouching down, I discreetly draw my gun. Donnie asks Ryan and Seth how much they hate Luke. Donnie says how scared Luke is when Ryan tells him to put the gun down. Donnie doesn't back down and tries to snatch the gun from Donnie when it accidentally goes off, shooting Luke in the arm.
Donnie loses the gun. Before he can grab it and run to his friends, he yells.
"Hands up and don't move," I say, pointing it at the five.
They are dumbfounded. Then three men come running in with clear military formation, covering every corner of the house.
"Jacob, Hector, Smith. I've got them here. Put flanges on them and call the police," I order with clear fury in my voice.
"Yes, sir," they say at the same time.
I walk over to Luke, see the wound, put the gun away, and run to the kitchen to get some rags and press. "Sum, please call the police and explain things to them. Seth, call the ambulance. The shot is not serious," I say as I comfort Luke.
After a short while, several police cars arrive. After explaining the situation, they take my men and my statement, reviewing the corresponding permits, especially mine, since carrying a gun at 16 in California is almost impossible. But I have a special permit attesting that I am a person in constant danger (due to family fortune) and with extensive firearms training.

The drive to Summer's house is especially quiet until we park outside her house.
"Are you okay? Are you still scared, or is it because I carry a gun?" I ask with concern.
"No, it's not that..." she says slowly. "It's just thinking about how close I've come to a situation like this." We give each other a long hug, she lets out a few tears, and says, "Good thing you were there." Then she gives me a kiss.
"Good night, Summer."
"Good night, Alex."
