"Cree you have to get out of bed immediately" I heard my mom scream from downstairs. Ugh, it's morning. I decide to pretend like I didn't hear her, even though I knew she would be storming into my room any minute from now.

"Wake up you silly girl" she said trying to shake me out of the best feeling, sleep.

"I don't want to" I said still refusing to open my eyes.

"If you do not get up now then you're having spaghetti for the rest of the week" she threatened.

No, not spaghettis. It's not like I don't like spaghetti, eating spaghetti means staying with grandma for a whole week, not my typical way of spending a whole week. Everyone loves their grandma but not me. Nona was the last person I would ever want to spend a day with. I don't know why but the idea of spending time with her just doesn't seem the best. I immediately open my eyes to see my mom looking at me with her hands on her waist.

"Now we're talking" she said

"Morning Mom" I managed to murmur.

"Morning. Hope you're feeling better now" she said.

Better? Oh now I remember. I had a bit of a fever last night.

"Yeah, I feel much better"

"You should be preparing for school right?" she asked giving me a 'what are you waiting for' kinda look. I rolled out of my bed and slipped into my pink fluffy flip-flops. I went into the bathroom and I heard the bang of the door, my mom just left the room. When I looked at the mirror, I can't help but laugh at myself, I looked like I had gone bananas. I plaster a pea-sized toothpaste on my toothbrush and go on with brushing. After that I take a long nice bath, allowing the cold water to loosen up my muscles. I dry myself up and tie the towel above my chest. I was done freshening up.

My room was painted with my favorite colors, white and black, absurd right? I know. How can I have black and white as my favorite colors, they are literally not colors. It's like playing chess.I walked over to the window and I drew the curtains allowing the warm rays of the sun to come in. The sun looked back at me with a smile, which I wasn't sure was meant for me. Its rays were so spread out like it was telling me to come take a hug but I couldn't, no, I wouldn't, it looked too hot for a hug. I moved over to my shelf of books, it had my favorite books, 'Best Friends', 'Rent a Bridesmaids', 'Paws and Whiskers', all from my favorite author, Jacqueline Wilson. I pulled out 'Rent a Bridesmaid' and placed it on my bed, I'm taking it to school. I looked over at the flower pot that sat at a corner of my room, there was still some water left in it from last night's watering.

I move towards my closet and pull out my red blouse and black skirt and of course my matching black jacket. I tie my hair into a ponytail, my favorite, and I go downstairs to have breakfast.

I look over to my plate of bacon and eggs, my favorite breakfast. I sat down and went ahead with eating since I was already running late for school.

He walked out of his room without uttering a word and walked towards the kitchen island. He picked a dish and placed his own portion of meal in it and quietly went back to his room. The smile on my mom's face disappeared.

Sometimes, I keep forgetting that he still lives here with us, giving that I only get to see him in the morning, when he comes to eat breakfast and yet he doesn't sit at the table with us. We have been living like this for the past two years, Dad, Mom and myself, ever since mom and dad had a pretty bad argument. He has been appealing for a divorce but mom doesn't want that. She still thinks she can make things work out but I don't think dad is going for that, he looks fed up with everything. Sometimes, they make me think that they were forced to marry each other. Thinking of all this just makes me want to cry. Oh no! I'm running late. I grab my bag from the counter and put on my shoes.

"Bye Mom" I said pecking her on the cheeks. She gives me a smile but it doesn't look very genuine.

I arrive in school not long after I leave. I move over to my locker and open it. The inside was all wrapped with a pink wallpaper that looked more like a gift wrap. I pick out my notebooks and my schedule for the day. Nice, I have English classes now then Maths and Italian class before my short break. I love this timetable.

Pulling out my English, Maths and Italian textbooks, I move straight to my English class. Mr Joe stood in front of the class waiting for the rest of the students to arrive, he was always the first to arrive in class. I walked over to the second row and had a sit beside the most obscure student in school, Jasper Biden. He looks at me with the most surprised look he could give.

"What?" I asked.

"Nobody actually likes sitting there" he said.

"Well, I can for a change" I said. I would never want to sit with him but right now I just need some peace and quiet and I know that sitting beside him is the only solution to that.

"Okay class, today we'll be discussing adjuncts" Mr Joe starts off his lesson for the day and I get lost in his fluent English language.

I return to reality when the bell goes off and I pick up my books to leave for my next class. The maths class goes by quickly and I move over to my Italian class, it was my first class actually since we just started it here in school. I think I'm gonna enjoy this.

I step into the class, a bit undecided about where to sit. I take a sit in the second row and wait patiently for everyone else to settle down.

Miss Sophie comes in and greets the class.

"Good morning class" she said

"I'm going straight to the point, no formalities. Just take down the notes on the board" she says and faces the board.

Just then, someone steps into the class. He's late.

"Young man, why are you late?" she asks.

"I was deciding on which language class to attend" he says almost sounding rude.

"Well have a seat" she snaps back at him.

He searches the class for a seat, probably. His eyes rest on the empty seat beside me. He moves towards me and sits right beside me. I could sense danger.

"Now study your notes and in the next class I'll teach you the basics of Italian language. Arrivederci (Goodbye)" she says and leaves the class. I still have about twenty minutes before class ends. I open my notes to study but I can't, everything looks so strange. I pull out my favorite book, Rent a Bridesmaid, and started searching it, looking for where I stopped the last time. There, I found it.

"Rent a Bridesmaid" he scoffs.

"What?" I said

"Nothing" he says and stands up, probably to leave.

He walks out of the class and a group of boys follow behind. He looks like a bully.

"Miss Cree Peterson" a man dressed in a black suit whom I later identify to be Mr Finn calls out.

"Yes sir" I said, a bit nervous.

"The principal has asked to see you" he says and all eyes turn to me, I try to avoid their gaze.

"Yes sir" I said. I pack up my books and leave for the principal's office, praying that I was not in trouble.

I knock on the door and Mr Benson ushers me in.

"You must be Miss Peterson" he said.

"Ye...Yes" I quiver.

"There's no need for you to be nervous. It's not bad news" he said and I admit that calmed me down.

"After careful consideration, I have decided to appoint you to be the assistant librarian of the school" he said.

"Really?" I said with a huge smile on my face.

"Yes. The librarian needs some help so I decided to appoint a student to help out. You're the best English student so it might as well be you." he said.

"Thank you so much Sir" I scream and cover my mouth with my hand after realizing what I just did.

"You should go meet the librarian now. I've sent word to her" he said.

"Thanks a lot" I say and leave the office.

OMG. This is so nice. It's going to help me take my mind off things and I'll get free access to books. Awesome. I run down the hallway, I'm going to meet the librarian.

"Good morning Miss Lisa" I say and she gives me a smile, the brightest smile ever.

"Miss Peterson, so you're my new assistant" she said.

"Yes" I continue.

"I suppose you're familiar with the library" she said.

"Yes"

"But you can go take a look if you wish" she concludes.

"Sure thing Miss Lisa" I say and head off to the section where the novels were kept.

I look at all the books but it's either that I don't like it or that I've read the book before.

"Miss Lisa, where are the new books"

"There has been a delay in their delivery but they are sure to arrive next week" she said

I really need something new. I look over to the counter, there's a book with a black cover on it.

"What's that?" I said pointing at it.

"Oh, it arrived this morning but it was placed together with the textbooks. I haven't actually looked at it" she said pulling the book along the counter.

"Can I have it?" I said stretching out my hand.

"Sure" she said, handing it over to me.

"Just make sure to keep it safe" she added and moves over to the shelf.

I open the first page of the book and read it out.
