After laying there and getting tested on like a lab rat the doctors finally pulled the tube softly from my throat and handed me a cup of water which I quickly finished off before once again trying to sit up. "Where—" I tried to speak, but my voice came out hoarse. I coughed and tried again. "Where is Ryan?"
The nurses turned to each other sharing a look and then left the room as the doctor handed me another cup of water. "I'm sorry that I have to be the one to tell you this, but Mr. Rivers didn't make it. The car accident that you two were in was so catastrophic that it left him in a vegetative state. You're lucky to be alive."
"Ry—Ryan is brain dead? My Ryan?" I ripped the needles from my arms and pushed through the pain to climb out of the hospital bed. "You can't be talking about my Ryan!"
"Ma'am, I need you to stay in your bed. You can't push yourself too hard, after waking up from a coma."
