"The challenge of living in a world in which perception is reality; is we make our own reality, then have a very hard time seeing outside of that reality." Professor Dingman didn't have any cameras this week, and the class shrank to its normal size "Even well-educated and intelligent people find it difficult to get past their biases. It affects the way we do research, how we counsel people and the assumptions we make about the communities we are trying to develop."

"So, what do we do?" Anna asked, "How do we see past something we don't know is there?"

"Ask a friend," Marilyn said, "or a colleague. Talk to as many different people as possible and listen for the things that don't match your worldview. That's probably your bias. It's like dirt on a window. We don't see the window, but we see the dirt."

"What did you put in your coffee?" Anna asked, "That's brilliant."

"I had supper with a super-genius." Marilyn grinned and shrugged. "Maybe a little rubbed off."
