Oliver spent the rest of the day thinking about the question Mrs. Davies had asked him.
What was his dream?
When he was younger, he dreamt of being a well-known pianist. No one had taught him how to play the piano. He had gone to his friend's house for the first time and saw the instrument. It was as if it was calling him, so he sat down there and began to touch the keys. He kept returning there every day for years until his mother got him one. When he had told her he wanted to go to a music school, she had said studying music wasn't going to get him a good job. He was only permitted to learn and play the keyboard in their religious gatherings or activities, and do something professional for himself. Since then, he hadn't thought about anything else. Even his anxiety wouldn't let him have such a dream now.
He simply wanted to finish high school and probably skip college.
