We are on our first date

That devil actually dared to answer with the same lack of shame, "As long as she agrees to it, I plan to marry her one day."

"In that case, take off your shoes and come in. We will have a talk while the little fool changes her clothes."

"Mummy, COME ON!" Kai Xin was desperate to avoid the scene.

"We. Will. Have. A. Talk." Her mum glared at both of them before going to the kitchen to prepare some light refreshments.

DX felt the intense rage radiating from the woman standing in front of him but he chose to ignore it.

He merely gave her an infuriating smile, patted her head, and walked to the living room as if he owned the place and not a mere visitor.

"I give up!" She threw her hands up at the situation and went back to her room to change.

DX and An Qi Yan stared at each other for a long time. Both of them sat at the dining table and the steady tapping sound of An Qi Yan's finger against the wooden dining table made the entire situation felt more intense.

When Kai An came back from work and saw his mother sitting across a strange man, he was about to say something only to be sent to his room mercilessly. He could only eavesdrop from behind the door.

She had been staring at him for the past 15 minutes and to his credit, not only did he managed to sit and face her in an upright manner, his expression had been calm throughout. She liked that in a son-in-law.

"How old are you?"

"I'm turning 40 this year."

"40." She frowned. She had thought that he might be older than Kai Xin, but she did not realize that he was THAT much older. "Did you realize that my Xiao Xin is barely 26?"

He nodded. "I'm well aware of that."

"Don't you see that there might be a problem with this?"

"No."

"What would people think of her if news spread that she is dating a middle-aged guy?"

He leaned forward and voiced out clearly, "I love your daughter, Ms. An and despite her reluctance to admit it, I believe she has feelings for me too. So, no, I don't see a problem with me being older than her."

"You are too old for her. I want her to go out with someone closer to her age."

"I understand your reluctance. If I had a daughter, I would probably do worse." He then leaned back into the wooden chair, "But, even if you were to prohibit her from meeting me, I'd still see her. This is just a formality. I-"

His train of thoughts was interrupted when he saw his little minx walking out in the little red off-shoulder dress that he bought for her previously. In her hand held a box of tear shaped pearl earrings that he gifted her when she won her first case as the lead counsel.

The look in his eyes softened as he stood up and gazed at her. At that very moment, he was oblivious to everything and everyone else.

Kai Xin frowned nervously as she lightly touched her cheek, "Is there anything on my face? Did I put too much blusher?"

He went to her in two large strides. As he took the earrings and put it on her, he whispered, "I never thought you could be any prettier, but you surprised me again."

She blushed a bright red at the compliment, "How's the talk?"

In unison, they turned to An Qi Yan.

"You will send her back by 12 am." She stood up.

When the man nodded at her, she added, "That doesn't mean that I would approve of you."

She wanted to kick the insolent man in front of her out with a broom but when she saw his soft gaze when he saw her daughter, she stopped herself.

She can tell that he was serious about pursuing her. It was about time for her daughter to get someone. That girl had never had a boyfriend and she was getting worried!

"I will send her back by 12 a.m.," DX replied respectfully as he handed her the bouquet, "K mentioned before that you like roses."

She took the bouquet but added tersely, "Don't you dare to do anything unseemly to her!"

Kai Xin who was drinking water choked upon hearing that and sputtered, "MUMMY!"

DX gently patted her on the back as he promised her mother, "I won't touch her tonight, Ms. An. You have my word."

After they left, An Qi Yan realized what DX said earlier. "He won't touch her tonight?! What does he mean by that! " She glared at her innocent son who was about to come out from the room to take a look.

When he saw his mother's sullen expression, he immediately slunk back in. The women in his house scared the shit out of him and he can only count down to the days when he can afford a place of his own.

"He better not ruin my baby girl!" An Qi Yan thought as she looked out the window from their 18th floor unit.

Meanwhile, in the car, the mischievous man grinned as he teased the lady sitting next to him, "I think your mum likes me."

The sound of the slap resounded, causing Han Ye who was driving to look at the rear-view mirror. She had slapped him on the shoulder - hard! Han Ye felt the sweat slowly trickling down from his forehead.

DX stared at the angry little bunny next to him for a second before bursting into laughter at her indignant expression.

With her arms crossed, she snarled at him, "That's not funny! I nearly fainted from shock!"

"I wanted to do this properly." He explained as he took her hand and placed it on his thigh. "I don't want to start the courtship in the dark."

"You should have discussed with me first."

"You would have said no."

"Obviously!"

"There you go." He jerked her hand and she fell onto him. Embracing her in a hug, he whispered softly, "Don't be angry. We are on our first date."

She wanted to hit him more but she was helpless when he made that sad 'i'm-hurt' face. In the end, she merely growled and lightly bite his shoulder in frustration before resting her head against it.
