Onward to the Mainland

"Nightmare Fox Demonic King?" exclaimed Stygian, the two maids, and Elsa. The Nightmare Fox Demonic King had a resounding reputation, even in the mainland. It was born as an ordinary fox in the Azurewood forest and slowly cultivated up to its present strength. It specializes in the mastery of the soul and is the only existence in the continent to attain profound attainments in this field. Its fast speed, sharp claws, and unfathomable 'Nightmare Realm' skill gained fame after several skirmishes with famous humans experts. Currently, the human sects were having a huge headache contemplating on how to deal with it.

While it was not necessary that the descendant of a demonic beast will specialize in the same masteries as its parents, most of the time they follow the same path as the parent. This is because their bloodline can assist in the comprehension of the masteries their parents specialized in.

The mastery of the soul is quite rare, and profound attainments in the mastery of the soul, like the Nightmare Fox Demonic King, is even rarer. If this fox could truly become another Nightmare Fox Demonic King in the future, it would render enormous benefits to its partner. It held immense value, this was the reason the Red Tavern Group risked the fury of the Nightmare Fox Demonic King to steal its cubs.

"It's so cute..." muttered Elsa, while stretching her hands out to take the fox from Stygian's hands. "Thank you," she said while looking at him, before looking down and blushing again.

"Damn! That little fox was a future demonic king? If I had known why would I have offered it" thought Stygian, while on the surface he showed a bright smile and said " Your welcome" He then looked at her blushing face, and recalled what he had seen back at the lake, and started blushing too.

"HAHAHAHA" the old man Alvin continued laughing, not noticing the strange atmosphere."All right then, we need to set off now if we want to reach the sect by dusk. Old geezer Tan, remember to contact me first if you get some good stuff in that place" said Alvin preparing to leave. "Spring, Autumn, both of you prepare to leave with Elsa. And brat, come on, say your goodbyes. I'll be waiting outside, and we will leave when you are ready"

As the old man and the three girls went outside, Stygian slowly turned around and gazed at the uncle Tan, who had been the only person in his life for the last ten years, with complicated feelings.

"What are you looking at brat? I am finally getting rid of you. You better not embarrass me in any way while you are in the sect. Lots of my old friends will pay attention to you. So be passable in cultivation at the least alright?

"Uncle Tan, that old man Alvin did not seem to know very well about my parents. Now that I'm going to leave can you tell me something?" asked Stygian with hopeful eyes. He was curious about his parents, but uncle Tan never told him anything.

"What that old geezer said was true. Your parents used to be part of a sect that was quite close to the Azurewood forest. Ten years ago, they went into the forest to complete a task but never returned. Five years ago, their sect was submerged by the beast tide. I and your parents were quite close. I was asked to babysit you when they went on a mission ten years ago. They never returned, and thus I got stuck with you" said uncle Tan with a straight face. "Oh that's right," said uncle Tan, before walking up to a shelf and pulling out a delicate crystal necklace, pitch-black in colour. "This was put around your neck at that time. I removed it as I didn't want you to damage such a beautiful necklace. You can have it back now"

Stygian looked at the crystal necklace, before taking it and putting it on. He couldn't tell what material it is made of, but it felt cool against his skin. He also felt an intimate connection between himself and the necklace, though he could quite tell what exactly it was.

"Uncle, what kind of people were my parents?" asked Stygian after a moment's pause.

"Kind, generous, loyal, righteous, loved to make friends, blah blah blah. You can ask around, kid. They were quite popular back in the day. Their names are David and Camella. Now get going kid" said uncle Tan.

"Yes," said Stygian and walked towards the door. Just before exciting, he turned around, took a last look at the old man and said, "Goodbye uncle Tan! Hope I see you again"

The old man grunted in acknowledgement. Not saying anymore, Stygian looked around the shack one last time before proceeding out.

A gleam of sadness passed through the old man's eyes, after which he inaudibly muttered to himself "What kind of people were your parents? I really wish I knew" He then caressed the scar on his face.

Outside, Stygian looked at the four people waiting for him, and excitedly thought "All right! Onward to the Mainland now!"
