8. Life in another world (part one)

It's been four years now since I was born and tomorrow is going to be my birthday,I spent the last 3 years of my baby life just doing stuffs babies normally do but with each passing moment I felt my consciousness slipping away from me,it got to a point that I couldn't remember who I was, it was until about 3 weeks ago that clips of my memory where coming back to me,and at this point I am not really sure if the memory of me having a past life is true or not but I am happy to be alive now but, they were some things that didn't leave my memory.

Right now,I was running in the hallway while playing with my big brother, technically he's my cousin but I prefer to call him big bro,our mothers are out on a important trip,so we have the whole mansion to ourselves,at first I thought it was strange that we both lived in the same house but I didn't let it bother me too much so I didn't ask.We were playing the game 'tag',it was one of the things I remembered doing in my past life,and ever since I taught big bro he never allowed me rest , always asking that we should play the game. Even though he's the one mostly excited about this I am happy to have his company, it's one of the things that keeps me sane when our mothers are out, leaving us all alone with the servants.

"Tag you're it"

Subaru said lifting his hands up in victory

"wow,you finally caught me and you were faster than last time"

I said breathing heavily

"what can I say I improve everyday,but for a four years old kid you sure are fast,are you sure you weren't an athlete or something"

he said lying down on the floor trying to catch his breath

"you must be joking,I am only four,how could I have been an athlete"

I said looking at him and laughing a bit ,the state he was in was really laughable considering he was playing with his little brother ,I am sure this isn't something he would brag to his friend about,beating a four year old in a game without losing his dignity

"yeah I understand what you mean but still"

he got up , seeming to be ready for another round but we were stopped by the ringing of the bell,and we turned to see Withward standing by the door with a bell in his hand and said

"alright ,children play time's over,your dinner is ready in the dining hall"

he said looking the way all butlers should looked

"Dinner already, but mom and aunt haven't even come yet"

Subaru said pouting his face

"I know young master,but your mother's said that in case of such a scenario I should serve you the food without them,they say that they are very sorry they couldn't make it"

Withward said bowing his head down,right now he was me and Subaru's personal attendant whenever we needed something we would ask him and he would get it for us but most importantly he was our friend

"how many times have I told you uncle Withward,stop calling me young master,Subaru is fine enough"

Subaru said beckoning Withward to leave

"okay , Young..I am sorry,Subaru I will take note of it next time"

he said bowing down and taking his leave

"you always say that,and besides i wasn't asking for myself... I was asking for Ascimos "

he said whispering the last part to himself,then he turned to me and said

"alright Ascimos,it seems we have to put our play on hold but.."

as he turned back to face Ascimos but he found no one to be there then he said to himself

"don't tell me he left to the dining hall without me,Sigh, Ascimos "

he said lamenting to himself and walking to through the hallway to the dining hall.

In the dining hall what could be seen was a Young boy of about 4 years old stuffing his face with spaghetti and meatballs 🍝

"ah,good thing I gave Withward the recipe for this,now I can have some of the delicacy of my former life"

I said still eating my food when the door was opened and the person who came right in was Subaru

"wow"

he said while drooling 🤤 looking at the food that Withward had prepared.

"don't tell me we are having Spaghetti and meatballs"

he said taking his sit with his eyes filled with stars 🤩

"I keep asking Withward from where did he get the recipe from"

he said while stuffing his face with the Spaghetti

(cough,cough)

I coughed up a little finding out what my big bro does behind my back

"and umm did he tell you?"

I said while sweating swallowing the last bit of Spaghetti in my mouth

"no he didn't, Everytime I ask he always comes up with an excuse and finds a way to change the topic

he said still eating

"phew,thank goodness"

I said in relief,so Subaru won't hear me

"don't think too much about it he must have his reasons"

I said taking the last bit of Spaghetti in my plate sucking it up

"woah,this one's pretty long"

I kept on sucking until alas I found out where it was leading to,and right Infront of me I found Subaru also sucking out the same spaghetti it seems he noticed because we both stop sucking it and cut out the part we could,and thanks to that incident I lost my appetite,

"I am sorry Subaru but I think I have lost my appetite, It's already late I am going to bed"

I said walking off,then I turned seeing him still sitting down

"aren't you coming?"

I said looking at him

"no, don't worry about me,I just want to return the plate to Uncle Withward,it seems I too have also lost my appetite"

he said pushing the spaghetti aside

"okay,but don't be too late"

I said leaving the dining hall,I went straight to our room which was at the south side of the mansion,one could easily tell if they looked up and saw the symbol of a stars with different colours of petals ,well my aunt calls it a flower but who could blame her it does resemble a flower a bit.

I stepped into the room me and Subaru shared,in this room which was coloured red and orange what could be seen was a bunker bed,on the corner was a cat named mits(the family pet) who wasn't feeling well all too much so I carried him and put him in my lap, a shelf by the wall filled with books a painter's utensils by one side of the room for Subaru because he really liked to draw and a piano and other musical instruments along with a fishing rod which was for me,I found the fishing rod in my mother's room,it was one of the few things that was in my past life and also in this new one so I asked her if I could keep it and she said yes,

I immediately climbed to the top bunk of the bed and carried a book titled 'the wizard's guide to victory' and kept on reading just to pass the time,but to be honest I was expecting my mom and aunt to be here with me even if aunt couldn't make it ,at least mom would,even if I don't complain that doesn't mean I am not angry, I waited for about 5 minutes still reading the book while caressing mits on my lap, but yet Subaru didn't come

"huh,even he has abandoned me now,sigh"

I said to myself keeping the book aside I went to sleep

Subaru's POV:

"come on, where's mom and aunt"

I said looking at the time while sitting in the mansion's master room,or to be more precise parlour,i kept on checking the room's clock from time time(sorry but I didn't want to use a older means of telling time, so I just stuck with what I knew)

"9, o'clock already,how long does mom and aunt intend on keeping us waiting"

ding-dong

a sound came from the mansion's gate

"that shouldn't be them"

,i said rushing out to the court yard all the way to the gate

"finally,for a second I thought you guys won't make it"

I said taking a look at mom and aunt both in their armour

I rushed to hug my mother

"welcome back mom"

and she received me in her arms saying

"I missed you"

and I replied

"missed you too,but mom you squeezing me too tight "

I said tapping her shoulder for air

"oh, sorry"

she said letting go of me

"welcome aunt,how are you?"

I said with my hands in my back looking up at Subaru's mother

"fine as always Subaru"

she said

they both stepped into the courtyard and they were visited by Withward who took a bow Infront of them

"welcome, master Rachel and Emilia"

he said looking at the ground

"no need to be so formal Withward,by the way where's Ascimos"

Aunt Rachel said looking around for any sign of Ascimos

"I am sorry madam,but he seems to be asleep"

"well I can't blame him we did come late"

she said looking disappointed

"just fess up Emilia, you're just jealous that you didn't get hugged by your son aren't you?"

my mom said looking like someone who has just won a gold medal

"am not?, am just uhm,just uhm"

she said with her face turning red

"see I knew you were,you just wanted a hug from Ascimos, hahaha"

she said pointing at aunt Emilia

"I don't mean to be rude but I'll really appreciate it if you guys don't talk of such things when I am around"

I said folding my hands and looking away from the twin duo

"and Ascimos being asleep works better for us,right now he may be disappointment but I am sure that once he sees what we've planned for him he's gonna be all smiles. So did you guys get it?"

I said turning to look at both of them

"yes we did,it was hard to find them though but at the end it was worth it,well anything's worth it for my son"

aunt Emilia said with a lot of bags 🛍️ in her hand

"okay good,uncle Withward is Ascimos asleep yet"

I said turning to look at him

"As I said before he is.H did seem persistent at first but he finally fell asleep"

Withward said standing upright

"good,I did promise him I would be back but I'm sure this would make it up"

I looked at my mom and aunt Emilia and then I thought

|...even though today is the day grandpa left us,I'm still happy that they could spare some if that time to do things like this ....|

then I raised up my right hand and said

"alright everyone let's do this"

and everyone including uncle Withward all joined me and said

"yeah!!!"
