Chapter 37: The Morning

Grayson opens his bleary eyes, awoken by the feeling of rays of light falling against his face. He had never enjoyed the concept of morning light before, opting instead to keep his room as dark as humanly possible. The morning light had only been a sign that he had run out of time to sleep. When it was dark, Grayson could stay comfortable, isolated from the world for just a moment longer.

This morning, however, as Grayson turns his head to see Jude's sleeping face, he finally understands the appeal. Jude looked so…peaceful. His long black eyelashes cast a shadow under his cheekbones, his lips barely parted as his chest moves rhythmically up and down.

Grayson can feel his chest ache looking down at Jude.

He couldn't quite remember when they had fallen asleep, but he knew that they had been out on the couch. They had sprawled across the surface, limbs entangled as Grayson buried his face in Jude's shoulder. They had talked all night.
