A beautiful lie

I made long graceful walks immediately the wedding hymn kicked in, relishing the soft petals under my bare feet. Everyone stood up, eyes widened with sheer bliss and utter astonishment.

How I wanted our wedding to be real at that moment, but if wishes were horses, beggars would definitely ride.

My mother had tears in her eyes — happy tears, exactly what I had hoped for. She smiled warmly at me, even though she thought I was really insane about the whole agreement thing, nonetheless, she was really happy she gets to witness my wedding. Fake wedding.

Her stunning strapless gown with beaded scalloped fringe did justice to her petite figure, even though she looked frail and tired, she still managed to pull it off. She was such a beauty.

I could feel two prominent pair of eyes on me, forcing me to move my gaze from my mother to the culprit.

Staring at me was the most sinfully gorgeous adonis I have ever seen. My breath literally stopped for a nanosecond. He was no doubt the most beautiful man on earth, his hair was gelled back to perfection. His black designer tuxedo with crisp white shirt and red bow tie — to match my hair, I guess, donned his sculpted body. Sleek custom made Christian Louboutin shoes caught my eyes for a few seconds, it was absolutely perfect on him. Could he be anymore perfect? God really did took his time in creating him. He was probably created on a Sunday, I bet.

And then he smiled, he actually smiled — a real one. My heart almost raced out of my chest, my stomach churned with butterflies at the thought that I genuinely made him smile. His eyes stayed glued to me, staring at me like I was the most beautiful angel to ever graced earth. I almost dropped the lovely bouquet of circus roses in my hand from raging nerves. Someone needed to stop that sin of a man and that was when it all came crashing down on me.

Could I keep up with this farce? I tried so hard to not feel any damn thing for him, I tried so hard to deny any fucking feelings at all, but it seemed my heart had other choice.

Right there, I knew I would definitely be the one who likely gets hurt from it all.

I almost cried at the thought that everything was fake, he was only looking at me with so much love to actualize the script he had written.

His eyes held mine for what seemed to be an eternity, it was just us two — Trev and Aless, Aless and Trev. I have such a cruel, bastard fate, I was getting married to the first man I truly felt something for, and me to him — nothing, just nothing but unclothed hate.

Alessia, you got what you deserved.

Standing next to him was his business partner that I have never met, Giovanni Russo, a very scary man with a cold smile. And to his other side, Hailey. Draped in beaded sheath gown, pearl earrings dangling on her ears, the dress brought out her beautiful curves.

Scott, Hailey's father placed my hand in Trevor's and left for his seat as soon as we got to the end of the aisle. I took my place next to Trevor at the altar, he smiled and rubbed my hands affectionately. That instantly soothed my roaring nerves, God knew how much I needed that comfort at that moment, I enjoyed it for the time being and leaned into him more. It might not be real afterwards, but my new goal was to make the wedding seem as real as possible.

I might never get that kind of princess wedding again.

The wedding was held on a beach, just like I had wanted. I didn't think Trevor's mom was listening when I told her, I thought it was just a test or something like that.

The aisle consisted of velvety red petals, flying antique lanterns lighted the sky, colourful pebbles and painted shells decorated the private beach. Hailey's mom did that. It was just scenic. It was picturesque.

"Do you, Trevor Vitaly Reynolds, take Alessia Gloria Maxwell to be your lawful wedded wife, to cherish in friendship, to love her faithfully, to trust and honour her through the best and the worst, for as long as you both shall live?" The Officiant asked.

"I do."  He said, grinning at my face like he had been waiting for this moment his entire life. If only. I was aware it's a lie, a beautiful lie.

"Do you, Alessia Gloria Maxwell, take Trevor Vitaly Reynolds to be your lawful wedded husband, to cherish in friendship, to love him faithfully, to trust and honour him through the best and the worst, for as long as you both shall live?"

I stayed painfully silent, how could I agree to what would most likely wreck me? The hall was deadly silent at that moment, as if they were all waiting for the President's opening speech.

Trevor stared expectantly at me — that woke me up from my own spell. If I should call it off, it would definitely ruin Trevor and his parents' honour. It could cause a lot of damages to their family and business, and also, my mother.

"Do you Alessia-"

I bottled up my thought and sighed out loudly. "I do, I really do." I said. I almost slapped myself the moment the last three words left my mouth, what was I trying to prove? Because that definitely made me seem eager, and for sure, Trevor noticed.

God! Stupid, stupid Alessia.

He grabbed my hand and slowly slipped the beautiful ruby ring on my finger, the gem glistened under the lantern light, creating a glow which reflected on my forehead. I almost cried, everything was so beautiful, not even 'thank you' could suffice. He smiled when he saw my teary eyes and wiped a tear that couldn't stay put.

"You may kiss the bride." The Officiant said.

It was happening, the moment. A tingling feeling started brewing inside my body in expectation of what was to come.

He came closer and pulled me in, his lips meeting mine in perfect synchronicity. I stood on my tippy toes and leant in, savouring his minty taste. Grabbing a fistful of his hair, I arched my body closer to him, we were pressed up against eachother. He slightly bit my bottom lip and I let out a breathy moan, which he heard. I opened my mouth and let his tongue in, he responded with equal ferocity. We were like two peas in a pod. It was so perfect. It was both gentle and fierce. It was heaven, well until-

"Em...erm," The Officiant cleared his throat.

Honestly, I knew nobody wanted to see live porn, especially our parents.

My cheeks turned beetle red from embarrassment. Trevor chuckled and shrugged it off.

Well, good for him.

The reception was just as I had expected. The wedding hall was decorated nicely, it was a grand wedding with ruby as its theme. It was everything my father had always wanted my wedding to look like, and for that — I have my new mother in-law and Gracie, Hailey's mom to thank.

The big room accomodated more than a thousand guests, and I probably knew just fifteen amongst them. It was no surprise Trevor's mom invited others, from relatives to close associates and the rest — I had no idea. She had a pretty high position in the society, I didn't need to social climb for one.

My eyes met with Trevor's for the umpteenth time, his gaze held a dangerous glint. Coming towards my direction, he took each steps with confidence and charisma that it seemed like he was walking to collect a Nobel prize that he truly deserved. He made a stop in front of me, gently placing my hands in his for our first dance.

Dance.

Dancing is a beautiful way to connect with one's partner on a level so deep, just like we did. Twirling and gazing into each other's eyes, it felt like a fairytale. My fairytale. I wanted that moment to last forever, Trevor's eyes were kind towards me, his hands caressed my clothed skin like a lover would, his lips whispered unspoken words and somehow — I could hear them, his body swayed with mine in the most beautiful, yet perfect way possible, like we were made for each other. It suddenly dawned on me, Mr Reynolds wasn't just a billionaire, he was a lover, that — I understood. He may dislike me, but he definitely didn't hate love, nor affection, I could have sworn he enjoyed every moment just like I did.

If I die during this moment, I would definitely die a happy woman. We may have our differences but I'm glad we set them aside to bask in our wedding bliss, and just like that, I became Mrs Reynolds.

happy independence loves, here's a limited chapter for y'all. God bless Nigeria.
