15. THE STRANGE ZOMBIE

It was another day in the apocalypse and it was finally the day we had to execute our plan.

"Are they ready?" I asked Sophie who was also getting prepared to leave as she would be one of the four leaders guiding them

"Everything's set, we've armed them with makeshift weapons and we also gave them little bags to carry whatever they found." Sophie said

They were about 20 survivors who were to partake in this mission and to guide them, I had chosen Sophie, Mia, John, and Kyle.

I had chosen Sophie to go with them because she needed a little experience, that girl had practically killed nothing since the apocalypse began and for Mia, I just couldn't have her on my group, I picked Kyle because he was probably the smartest among them all, though I won't say they were all dumb, and as for John, he needed to go for personal reasons

"Here." I said handing Sophie the kitchen knife which I had brought with me from my dorm.

"Uhm... Thanks, I think."

It was finally time for the little group to head out

"Why can't I be in your group Kate?" John asked a little disappointed as he was on the other group and not mine.

Ignoring the whinnying boy, I said

"I guess it's time to leave... I have chosen Mia to lead the group, so you'll all be taking orders from her." As much as I hated to say it, Mia was the right choice because she had the mindset of a leader who wouldn't abandon anyone for anything

As the group got ready to leave, I could see the fear which was clearly visible on their faces, so I had to give them a word encouragement

"Try not to die out there."

"Geez, thanks for the word of encouragement Kate." Sophie said

*Click!* The sound of the gymnasium door opening and the group leaving was heard

* * * *

2 hours after the group had left, in a little class

"Hey John, check out this amazing spear!" Kyle said drawing out a sharp spear

"..."

"Shhh! quiet kyle, we don't want to attract any zombie." Mia said

"Don't worry about that, we didn't encounter any zombie on the way here, so I doubt there would be any close by."

"Hey John, which do you think is best, a spear or a bow?" Kyle asked again looking at John who was worried about something

"Are you thinking about her again?" Kyle asked

"She doesn't seems to notice me, it's like I'm always invisible around her." John said

"Don't worry about that, she just needs time."

"How much longer will it take?"

"Just give her a little time, we're in the apocalypse after all."

"But just to encourage you..." Kyle said drawing out a little book from his pocket

"What's that?" John asked

"It's a guide, it will teach you all the things you need to know on how to court a girl." Kyle said.

John took the book

"Thanks." John said

"You're welcome, a bro always helps a bro in need." Kyle said leaving john

"Damn this apocalypse! It was really easy to flirt with any girl before the apocalypse began, now I can't even get one girl!" John said in a very angry tone

"You should really be quiet, something about all this seems strange, I mean we came from the gymnasium, scouted some classes and now we're here in the Martial arts class without encountering a single zombie, isn't it... Strange"

"Yeah, I thought I was the only one who thought something was off." John added

"We shouldn't be talking about all that now, remember we have 20 people inside here with us, we shouldn't give them a reason to be scared." Mia said

Inside the room which was the Martial arts class, the little group had scouted numerous buildings and had came to a stop in the Martial arts class to take a rest

"We've collected enough now, can we head back? I'm beginning to have goosebumps." Kyle said touching his arm

"Alright, we should probably head back now, I'm sure everyone would be waiting for us." Mia signalled and everyone got up ready to leave

"I'm sure Kate would be really happy after seeing all that we've collected." Sophie said excited

"Hmph."

* * * *

On the way back

"This is too easy." John said as the group headed back

"Nevertheless, we should always stay alert." Sophie added

"..."

After a while of walking in silence

"What the fuck is that!" John yelled pointing at a figure ahead of them

"Is it a zombie?" Sophie asked

"I don't think so, zombies have a pale green color." Mia said

"Then what the hell is that?" Kyle asked

"Let's check it out!" John said

"W-what, what if it's a zombie?" A survivor asked

"there's a possibility it could be a zombie, I mean it's just standing there doing nothing and we also have to consider the fact that we have to protect the survivors." Mia said

"Then what do we do? it's blocking the path." John asked

"...."

"I'll go check it out, while you guys wait here." John suggested

"I'll come with you." Sophie insisted

"What if it's a zombie, you'll be caught off guard." Mia said

"Don't worry, with the weapons we got from the Martial arts class, I'll be able to deal with it easily."

"Ok then... Be careful." Mia said.

With a little nod from john, Sophie and john marched forward towards the strange figure which stood there with it's back facing the group.

On getting to a close distance with the strange figure

"Hello..." Sophie was interrupted after John drew her away from the strange figure

"Don't get to close Sophie." John called

After fixing her posture Sophie said

"Sorry for that."

"Don't worry about it."

"...."

"Hey there, what are you doing standing out like that in the middle of an apocalypse, are you looking to get eaten by the zombies!" John yelled

"Calm down john." Sophie said

With the new spear they he had collected from the Martial arts class, john slowly used his spear to touch the body of the strange figure.

Suddenly it turned around and what john and Sophie saw shocked them.

It was a zombie with a pale orange coloured skin but that was not all, the strange zombie seemed to be feeding on another zombie only with the normal pale green color

"Oh shit!" John yelled

"What..." Sophie was still left bewildered

"Run Sophie! Run!" John shouted with all his might
