Descending the Mountain

Wei An now had a huge bump on her head. Rubbing it, she glared at the smirking devil sitting in front of her. If it wasn't for the fact she was scared to damage that godly face, she would've punched it until it caved in. Damn him and his pretty face.

Seeing the little bunny glaring at him piteously, Chu Liu Jun unconsciously smiled. His frozen heart melted a bit.

"When am I going to start with my classes?" Wei An asked.

"After your teacher comes back." Liu Jun frowned. That old man was still traveling around the world. His latest letter consisted of all the famous food he ate and the landmarks he visited. While Liu Jun was stuck here managing the sect. If only his master passed the inheritance to that old man...

"When is he going to come back?" Wei An was curious.

"I don't know." Liu Jun answered.

It took a while for Wei An to return to her senses. If he didn't know when her teacher was going to come back, why did he even bring her to this place?! For all Wei An knew, her teacher could come back after 20 years! What would she do until he arrived?

As Liu Jun watched on, he noticed that her face was getting more and more red. Worried that she caught a fever, he held his hand to her forehead.

Wei An finally exploded.

Swatting his hand away, she fumed,

"If you don't know when the teacher is coming back, why the hell did you bring me here?! What if he doesn't come back at all?"

"Looking at your silver hair, you're definitely a foreigner. With your knowledge about the capital, you wouldn't last 3 days. ," Liu Jun replied.

Wei An subconsciously glanced at her hair. "Is there some way to change my hair color?"

"Yes, but your eyes are the real problems." Liu Jun held her chin and peered into her eyes. One blue and one purple, shining like jewels. "You're lucky that we happened to have an illusion ring coming in the day after tomorrow. Until then, you're going to have to stay inside the sect."

"Why!? I could just wear a cloak to hide my eyes!"

"Do you really want to go outside?"

"Yes!"

*********

After Wei An walked out in her male disguise, Liu Jun strolled over, wearing a smile on his face. Once again, she was blinded by his handsomeness.

"Here. Wear this." Liu Jun took out a mask.

"Okay. Wait. Why is it a bunny? Why can't it be like yours?" Wei An grumbled.

"Because it's the only one we have left." That's a lie, but she doesn't need to know that.

Wei An was still suspicious. "Are you sure?"

"Yes."

**********

Liu Jun kept his word and took Wei An out. As they descended the mountain, Wei An could already see the bright lights below her. Smiling to herself, she didn't notice Liu Jun staring at her. Still enraptured by the scenery, she was about to brush her hair back, before a hand beat her to it. Glancing next to her, she saw Liu Jun brushing her hair back with a gentle smile on his face. Right now, he looked like a person looking at the love of his life instead of the usual iceberg he was.

As if he just realized what he was doing, Liu Jun suddenly reared back. Covering his face with one hand, he quickly ran away, leaving Wei An dumbfounded.

Grumbling to herself, Wei An tried to catch up to Liu Jun.

Running up behind Liu Jun, Wei An asked, "What was that just now!?"

He played dumb. "Nothing happened just now."

"Liar! Why did you touch my hair just now?!"

"Nothing happened though." God knew how fast his heart was beating right now. His heart shouldn't be beating this hard. Liu Jun held his chest.

Wei An looked at him. "Where are we going?" Hmph. Too embarrassed to talk about it.

"To see the festival." Liu Jun looked at the red lanterns bobbing below.

"There's a festival today?!" Wei An gasped.

"Yes. The goddess descended from the heavens to bless us on this day 10,000 years ago."

"What did she look like?"

"Paintings of her depict an older version of you. Maybe what your mom looks like."

"But my mom left after giving birth to me. I don't know what she looks like."

Liu Jun went silent.

As they arrived at the festival, they saw a parade marching on the streets. Liu Jun smirked slightly as he watched his little bunny scampering around in awe.

Wei An reached the lake soon. A stall selling lotus lanterns was parked nearby.

"Could we buy a lantern please?" Wei An had heard of this in the novels she read.

"Fine."

Wei An ran ahead to the lake. Holding her lantern to her chest, she prayed that she would make lifelong friends and find her parents. Lighting the lantern, she smiled as it floated away. Liu Jun watched in silence as Wei An smiled to herself. The wind was blowing as she gazed into the distance.

Liu Jun walked over and draped his cloak over her shoulders.

"Let's go back," he said gruffly.

As they wandered back, Wei An's attention was soon captured by a stall owner blowing candy into animal shapes and giving them to children. She had heard of it from her master but never saw it in person.

Wei An dragged Liu Jun over to the stall. Her cheeks were stained red, and he felt the strangest urge to pinch it.

"Could I have a phoenix-shaped one?" Wei An asked.

The stall owner beamed, as he hurried to blow another one. "Yes."

While the stall owner blew the sugar into a phoenix, Wei An watched, enraptured by the scene. In her time, less and less people practiced this technique. The only one she ever eaten was given by her master, who had gotten it from one of his old friends. Each and every one of the shapes were made by hand and not machines. As the stall owner finished making the candy, Wei An handed him the money and left feeling extremely happy.

Unconsciously, Wei An held onto Liu Jun's hand. Liu Jun felt like he was dreaming and held her hand tighter.

They were walking hand in hand back to the mountains, when disaster struck.

"Protect the prince!" An arrow whizzed by. With a thud, a guard accompanying the sixth prince fell. Following that, more and more arrows buzzed past. An arrow headed for Wei An, but Liu Jun caught it.
