An hour had passed since Rose had seen Christopher. She sat nervously at the dressing table in her room while Lucy inserted the hair comb that Lady Harvey had sold rose on her last shopping trip. The maid placed it delicately in Rose's long, wavy chestnut hair. The comb was white and looked like a daisy. "There," Lucy said contentedly. "You look beautiful, don't you?"
Rose smiled at Lucy through her reflection in the mirror, although it was not genuine and did not meet her eyes. She replied, "Thank you, Lucy, for the sweet compliment."
"Milady, I apologize for coming off so forward. However; I sense you are nervous. Would you like some of your tea before you depart? It might make you feel better."
Lucy knew there was mounting tension in the mansion. She had felt it for days, but was unsure of why. She wished she could make Rose feel more relaxed. It seemed since their arrival at Mayfair, Rose had seemed a bit out of sorts.
