Rose sat on the edge of the bed, kicking off her shoes. She flopped back, her wavy chestnut hair spreading out behind her.
Her mind wandered on what to do with her life next. 'Where would she live? What jobs would be available when she got into the port of Calais?'
Her brain was a jumble of worries and emotions—so many that she was completely overwhelmed.
Her heart ached as she thought back on the letter she had been given by Duncan. The words rolling around in her head that Christopher no longer wanted her in his life seemed unfathomable.
She wished she had seen Christopher one last time so she could ask him herself—face to face if this was really what he wanted.
