Having been unable to sleep, Kane wandered to his office and sat at his desk, looking at the piles of documents he had been studying. As he picked up the scroll again to search for the marks Giselle had mentioned, he still could not find them. Throwing the scroll back in the middle of the work surface, he removed his monocle and rested his elbow on the desk's edge while pinching the bridge of his nose. Tiredness had caused his thoughts to be scattered.
At this point, he wondered if he should show the document to Gabriel to see if he could find anything that Giselle had described. But Kane did not trust Gabriel or his brothers. It was because of Christopher and Rose that Kane had not gone forward to show the scroll to them. He was uncertain of his brother's true intentions. Especially after the way Michael behaved at Shadestone. The most appropriate course of action for Kane was to be cautious until he could better comprehend what they were planning.
