Chapter 106-04

I didn’t wait for Layton to fully make it to my room. Zev was walking right behind me, and it pushed me to go faster. In the exact moment I reached downstairs, Layton was closing the front door to my house.

He looked relaxed, and his clothes were clean. Even his hair was fixed nicely, just as it was before he’d left.

Seeing him in perfect condition made me sigh in relief. I smiled at him, and closed the distance between us.

"It’s done," Layton said.

It took me a second to even register that he had spoken. He didn’t reach out for me, but I assumed that was because he was still mad at me. He had barely touched me after what had happened with Liam.

"Liam is gone," Layton repeated, rephrasing his words. He was looking at me intently, but I couldn’t really hold his gaze.

I stopped breathing for a moment, trying to process what Layton had said. Liam was gone— that couldn’t have meant what I thought it did.
