CHAPTER 2

Just then, I heard the sounds of blows and kicks instead. I couldn't understand what was going on, but I was still afraid to open my eyes.

I feel it would be better not to see, as life would ooze out of me. I want to avoid having my eyes opened when they hit me. The blows were sounding in my ears, but I couldn't feel any pain, which meant I wasn't the one they were hitting.

The fist fighting, kicks, and groans of pain got louder and more intense so that I was forced to open my eyes only to be shocked at what I saw.

I was so stunned to see a beautiful lady in a white robe fighting bravely with the men. My eyes flickered, and I sat up immediately. I couldn't understand why she was saving me or who she was. My face was strange to me, and none of my family or pack members were alive.

  Who is she then?

I watched as she fought tirelessly. The men were strong, but she got more powers.

She was able to bring down half of them, but the others smeared her whole body with their claws. She gasped and clenched her teeth.

They punched her so hard that she fell heavily to the ground. She was smeared with blood this time, and as she fell, she spat out a clot of thick red blood from her mouth, leaving me in terror as I thought of her dying too.

Is it a curse? Everyone keeps dying for me!!!

Hot tears rolled down, and I forced myself up from the ground. My head pounded so hard, my whole body was weak, and I couldn't feel my legs anymore. They were numb and couldn't carry my body anymore, even when I had succeeded. In standing up, I couldn't make a single move...

I felt dizzy and almost fell. My vision was blurry from the intense pain that filled my whole body. I struggled to breathe and stay strong.

My gaze was on the strange lady who got injured while saving me, and I wished I had gotten the strength to run up to her and tell her to stop,

Since my pack had gone into extinction, there was no need to stay alive. I can't just help but wonder why everyone wants me alive. I'm as useless as a pup. My wolf is the weakest.

Mom told me I'd avenge them, but how?

It's pointless to hope for me to avenge their deaths because I'm a wimp.

As the woman lay on the ground in pain, the men were getting closer to ending her life.

I couldn't stop crying as I took a few steps forward, gnashing my teeth in the pain from my broken bones and wounds all over my body. My messy blonde hair wasn't helping matters either, as it covered my face, making everywhere look a little dark.

"Please don't kill her. Kill me and let her be." I cried, stretching my hand to them.

They glanced at me and laughed scornfully.

"Anyone who tries to save you will die with you!" One of them scoffed.

"But she isn't one of my pack. Please spare her life. Let her go back to her pack." I pressed on in my pleading, but the men didn't even say anything again.

They rolled their eyes at me before charging at the woman who was still on the floor in pain.

Just as they got nearer, she shifted into a big brown wolf. They saw it late and had gotten near, so she devoured them all in a rush before they could attack or defend themselves.

She gave them no chance to shift into their beasts.

"Wow..." I exclaimed, admiring her strong wolf, which was full of strength, unlike mine, which cowers at the slightest threat.

Just as I saw the men all on the ground dead, I got a sudden strength which pushed me to where my mother lay,

I carried her up into my laps, sobbing profusely.

"Mommy!... Mommy, get up!... I have been saved. The men are dead, and your daughter is safe, as you wanted. Wake up and let's go together!!" I cried, shaking her profusely.

She was motionless and the thought of her being dead sent a cold chill from my head to toe. I didn't want to believe that, but the more she didn't move, the more it dawned on me...

I bit my lower lip, shaking my head again and again as I cried continuously.

I badly wish my mother would open her eyes. That would give me hope, but she isn't!

"Take it easy..." I heard the voice of the lady who had just saved me, and that made me look up to her.

She was wounded but still looked strong.

"Is my mother dead?" I asked with a whimpering tone, and she squatted down and took my mother's hand. She checked her pulse and sighed.

  "Is she..."

"Wait, take it easy!" She repeated, But that isn't what I wanted to hear.

She tapped my mother thrice on her chest, and in a few seconds, my beloved mother opened her eyes.

"Mommy!" I shrieked in happiness. My eyes glistened. I felt joy fill me to the brim. I swear my heart might have burst in the joy of seeing my mother wake up.

"You're fine, Mom. She saved me from those men. We will take you to her pack, they will treat you, you will be fine, and we will live happily without any trouble again." I kept spluttering as the excitement wouldn't let my words flow. I could feel tears of joy rolling down my cheeks.

She stared at me and smiled. I smiled back, caressing her cheek.

Her eyes moved to the lady who was my savior, and she nodded. The lady also nodded, and my mother took her hand.

"Make sure she is safe. She is my only hope. She is the only hope for the pack. Take her home and let her grow more. She is going to avenge us with her powers." My mother's words came slowly, slurred, soft, weak, and under her breath.

  "Yes, I will.

"Stop!" I hushed the woman and turned to my mom.

"Hey, what are you saying? I'm the only hope. I'm not the only hope. We are the hope of the pack. "You aren't dead, you will be fine, and together we will take revenge in the future," I stated curtly with a frown.

Why was Mom saying those words like she would die?

"You heard me right?" She muffled the lady who saved me, and she nodded,

"Mom, stop. Hey,..." I called the attention of the woman who saved me.

"Let's shift into your wolf. Let's take her to your pack. My mother is alive and that's what I want to know, not all these!" I seethed, and she let out a weak smile.

  "Be fast!!!" I yelled, exasperated.

She turned her gaze to my mother and I also did the same. I turned to my mother and saw her eyes closed already. I could feel the coldness in her body as it stiffened.

My brow arched. I squinted my eyes and scrutinized her whole body, wondering what was going on.

"Mommy!" I shouted her name, but there was no movement.

"She is dead already." I heard the woman's voice but sneered at her instead.

She must be stupid to say that my mother is dead. She can't be dead when I just heard her voice now.

"Mommy, open your eyes again!" I screamed louder, and the woman stood up slowly.

"Do that same thing again, so she will open her eyes!!" I begged with a high tone that showed how terrified I was.

"I gave her my internal power. I will die if I do it again. She also warned me not to repeat it, or she wouldn't let it get into her soul, and that would be a waste because she wouldn't wake up and I'd also die," the woman explained, but it was all like gibberish to my ears.

"Wake my mother up!!" I shrilled, and she shrugged, turning away.

"let's try to go out of here before the other men find us," she said calmly, but I won't listen. Not when my mother has just spoken to me and then this woman tells me she is dead.

  No way!

"Let's get out of here!" She repeated it with her tone higher. I rolled my eyes at her and kept shaking my mother, fixing my gaze on her eyes. I can imagine her opening those eyes again and that made me sit there shaking her, shaking an already cold dead body.

Oh, no, I don't want to believe my mother is dead!

"She told me to keep you safe. You can only be safe under my watch in the pack, so get your ass off there and let's go, or my sacrifice to save you will be in vain! " She sighed, and I yelped, swallowing the lump in my throat.

The tears won't stop falling as it dawned on me that mom and dad are no longer alive, and my pack is no longer existing.

  I'm all alone.
