" What?" Emily broke free from Elijah's embrace, she froze and looked at him, " Marriage?"
" I remember the last time I told you, we had to get married." Elijah said, "Did you think I was joking?"
He said they had to get married and Emily thought to herself: He made that decision without even asking me if I wanted it.
Perhaps the story he told was true. They had loved each other once, and he had lost an arm for her sake. But that did not mean that he had the right to make any decision for her.
The despotism of his manner made her revolt a little.
"Elijah, is it possible to take things slow about us getting married? " Emily said in a tentative tone, "Can we wait until we get to know each other better before we think about getting married?"
Elijah's face flashed with an imperceptible hint of displeasure, " Emily, everything I've done has been to be with you. Now you want me to wait. No, I don't want to wait any longer."
