Chapter 13

Location: Lack Town Teaching Hospital

A tall, clean shaved man putting on a dark blue uniform that identifies him as a cop stood alongside another tall, clean shaved man who was dressed in white coat, wearing sky blue, clinical hand gloves that identifies him as a doctor spoke to Owen who was laying down on a bed with a bandaged arm and leg as well as other stitches all over his body. Four of his friends lay on other beds in the same ward as him.

"How did you say this happened again?" The officer asked.

"A speeding truck ran our bikes over from behind," Owen said softly as he was still feeling pain from his injuries and wounds.

The cop jotted down what Owen said in a small book.

"Did you see the driver's face or anything that can help us trace and identify him? Perhaps the truck's plate number??" The cop inquired.

"No, I didn't see anything." Owen replied and the cop took his eyes away from him to his friends that were all bandaged up.

"Did you boys see anything?" He asked and they shook their heads. He jotted that down too and kept the book away in his shirt pocket.

"Alright, thanks for your time. My team and I will continue our investigation, you boys should rest and I wish you a quick recovery." The cop said and he walked out of the ward alongside the doctor leaving Owen and his friends alone.

"Ah..my whole body hurts," Owen sighs.

"Why did you lie? You should have told the cop the truth and let that bastard pay for doing this to us." One of Owen's friends named Declan said and the other three agreed with him.

"Yeah, you should have told the cop." They all said, causing Owen to frown.

"Are you guys kidding me or are you just plain stupid?" Owen half yelled causing them to keep quiet.

"What do you think will happen if we tell the cops the truth? Yes the man would be found but then he will tell the cops what actually happened that night; which is what we intended to do to that girl and who do you think will end up in jail?"

He paused giving his friends time to process what he just said but his friends were giving out a confused look so Owen answered his own question by himself.

"We. We will be the ones to go to jail and he would be declared a national hero for rescuing that girl. That sick bastard," a frown settled on Owen's face when he was done speaking.

"You are right we will be in big trouble if the cops find out what exactly happened that night," Declan said and Owen rolled his eyes slightly.

"Are you just realizing that now?"

"Well I couldn't think properly from all the pains I am feeling, I just wanted him to pay for what he did to us, the dude completely broke all the bones in my body," Declan replied.

"Trust me this isn't the end of it. We will surely get our revenge but for now no one should tell anyone what happened that night, especially to the cops. Got it?" Owen said, looking at each of them to see if his message sunk in.

They were all shaking their heads like they understood him perfectly.

"Yes."

"Good," Owen said before relaxing back on the bed, nursing his wounds.

Meanwhile outside the ward.

"How long do you think it will take them to heal?" The officer, whose name is actually Stephen, inquired from the doctor.

"From my judgment I will say 4-6 months." The doctor, Dr Philip replied.

"That's a very long time, poor boys but I would say they are lucky that none of them died after being hit by a truck. There are some crazy drivers out there and I will be giving my all to put this one to justice," Officer Stephen said but then he noticed a change in the doctor's expression.

"Is anything the matter?" He was quick to ask.

"Nothing, just that the way they fracture their bones seems so clean and perfect, not like something caused by an horrendous accident but by an intentional action."

"Are you saying you think a motor accident wasn't the cause of their injuries and wounds?" The officer asked, now paying full attention.

"From a medical standpoint I will say Yes. It's not possible for a motor accident to cause such precise fractions. All their limbs were removed from the sockets. Trust me the impact of a truck would have been much messier than that. I am talking about bones snapping and breaking and not dislocations." The doctor said and Officer Stephen sighed.

He glanced over at the ward where the boys were then back to the doctor as if pondering over something.

"Thank you for the information," he later said to the doctor with a handshake before leaving the hospital…

We haven't been in the library for up to 30 minutes when Kate said she had to go use the restroom and something just told me she won't be coming back to the library again maybe it's because when I told her to use the restroom inside the library she refused and insisted she wants to use the one outside. Why could that be? But anyways I have to give her the benefit of the doubt.

"..Alright, but don't take too long," I said to her in a warning tone.

"Of course, I will be right back in a flash." She replied, giving out a smile that looks fake.

"You better, unless I will come find you and you know I will." I said frowning at the end to appear serious.

"Alright Ma," she said sarcastically.

"You two geniuses should continue reading and please don't stop because of me okay?" She further stated before quietly walking out of the library.

"This girl," I uttered silently, shaking my head as she left.

"You have a really funny friend," Jeremy said, smiling.

"More like, annoying." I said with a slight roll of the eyes and he chuckled softly.

"But she means a lot to you. You care for her a lot," Jeremy stated like he was saying a fact.

I took my eyes to him: "And how do you know this?" I raised a brow.

"I just can tell by observing you two," he smiled.

I wanted to further question him but I decided not to and continued reading the books in front of me but they didn't seem to be entering my head as my mind was distracted with thoughts of him. The handsome blue-eyed man. I wish I could see him again, just once. I will be happy.

"Ah.." I let out a frustrated sigh.

"What's wrong?" Jeremy asked.

"It's nothing. I am just finding it hard to assimilate. That's all," I said, not wanting to go into deeper details.

"Then you need a break, a little rest can do a lot of magic." He said the last word with a lot of passion added to it.

"Yeah, I guess you are right," I said, then closed the book in front of me and rested my head back at the headrest of the chair.

He continued reading while I rested but then I became bored after some time doing nothing while everyone around me was busy reading. It also felt awkward so I decided to disturb Jeremy a little.

"Jeremy," I called softy.

"Yes," he replied, taking his face away from the book to me.

"You were in Mr Collins' class when he talked about evolution, right?" I said.

"Yes I was." He answered.

"So you must have heard him when he talked about another being that could or have evolved to be stronger and better than man in every aspect. What's your take on that? Do you think that's possible?" I said and he sighed softly.

"Well I always believe that nothing is impossible." He said and I sat up straight.

"So are you saying you believe such beings can evolve into existence that will be superior to man?" I said and eagerly waited for his answer.

"Well it might sound crazy but I think they already exist and are closer to us than you think."

"What?" My head literally exploded.

He can't possibly be serious.

"Do you believe in fairy tales?" He asked but he had this jovial expression so I really didn't take him seriously.

"What? Like fairies and trolls? Really funny." I laughed a bit louder than I should have considering where we were.

He also laughed along with me but then wore a more serious look.

"No, I am actually talking about vampires and werewolves."

"What?...Are you serious right now??"

"Well I have my reasons to believe they might be in existence but I would like to know your opinion. Do you believe they exist?"

"Well...I don't think so. I mean I don't know much about them. All I know is that vampires kinda drink human blood and werewolves. What do werewolves even do? Eat human flesh?? I don't know. I know they are some kind of wolf and beast-like creature. Aside from that, I know nothing much about either of them."

"Then I suggest you learn more about them then," he said.

"How??" I asked, then he picked up a book.

"By reading books. Who knows you might just find them interesting," He said before letting out a smile.
