Chapter 4- Dummies Guide to Basic Magic

*Lux's POV*

Finishing the Book "Dummies guide to basic magic" I summarized what I had just learned in my head.

There are 3 different types of core magic people can be born with. From most common to least common, elemental, natural, and spiritual. Each of these core magic types of different central magic. Elemental has fire, wind, water, earth. Natural has plant and healing. And Spiritual has word, enchantment and poison.

There is also branch magic you could learn based on your central magic type. These are advanced versions of central magic and they don't seem to be listed in this basic guide.

From what I understand, people normally have one central magic type, and can advance onto the corresponding branch magic if they have the affinity to learn it. In rare cases people can awaken to a second central type of magic and in an extremely rare case a third.

So for example if I had Elemental core magic, let's say I have affinity for fire central magic, I can only use fire except if I have another core awakening I could use water as well.

The way a person uses their magic is by utilizing a thing called mana. Apparently it is all around us in nature, invisible to the eye, and also even within our body.

A person could shoot a burst of water by taking the mana from their mana core (A sphere of mana in the center of your body where your mana is stored) and transforming it into water mana to shoot water outside their body.

If someone wants to gain more mana they have to condense their mana cores every time it is reaching its limit in their body. There are nine different levels of condensed mana, each rising exponentially in its amount of mana stored.

Bronze, Iron, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Emerald, Ruby, and Diamond.

Most people only ever reach silver or gold cores. Each race seems to be different in its affinities towards different magic types, but overall it seems around 90% of people awakened their mana core.

There are three awakening stages. First awakening- formation of a small bronze mana core. Second awakening- Attaining core magic type. Third Awakening- Attaining central magic

The last piece of information on the page was about Mana usage. There are 3 different ways to use mana, either Evocation-spoken spells using mana from your core. Conjuration-weaving mana throughout the body and outside the body from your core.. Enchantmantation-Enhances(strengthens) body through with mana from core.

I'm sure this is only the basics of magic as there was only one book I could find about magic. To know that magic really exists, this world must really be vastly different from earth in every conceivable way.

I jolted in surprise as my deep thinking was interrupted by the door banging open and Elder Rina arriving back to our home. She seemed nervous about something as she greeted me then glanced back and realized what I was doing.

All signs of nervousness gone from her, she strode over to where I was sitting on her desk and looked at me curiously.

"I was just curious about the book Rina," I remarked, hoping that she wouldn't get mad at me for going through her belongings.

Unfazed by my behavior Rina simply asked " You can read that, can't you? '' as she pointed towards "Dummies guide to basic magic".

I Solemnly accepted my fate and replied "Yes, I Just wanted to know about magic"

Surprisingly, Rina said " Very well Lux, I will tell you what I know about magic" with a hungry glint in her eye.

I couldn't hide my shock at this new turn of events as my face contorted in surprise.

"What, you think I would be mad at you for wanting to learn?" she said amusingly as she said down on our bed. "First of all assuming you read and understood the book" she paused as she looked at me questionly.

I nodded my head, now happy that I would finally learn more about this world.

She then continued on " Inside the Goblin Clan it is uncommon to have magic users, as most goblins rely on their pure muscle to fight. Goblins don't have much magic power and the ones that do most commonly have Element Earth Affinity. There are some evolved goblins called hobgoblins in the clan and they are stronger and have more advanced magic. I am one of those rare individuals that have more powerful magic, which is Spiritual Core magic, with Word central magic, which is a magic you can only use with Evocation. The mage injects mana into her voice, then speaks out a spell in the Runic language"

"Runic language?" I asked, wondering what kind of language could command mana.

"It's an ancient language that has been recorded in ancient temples and towers, and after speaking it out loud. Evocation users found they could create spells by forming words out loud" Rina replied.

"Watch this" she said as she spoke a word in the runic language. After a moment, the chair beside the desk suddenly skidded across the floor over to Rina.

I jumped back in surprise, nearly falling off the desk as Rina laughed " Now that is a spell for moving something". I crossed my arms in annoyance at Rina's obvious remark.

"Having word magic is rare, even among humans, and there aren't too many useful spells you can use without spending all of your mana up" she remarked wistfully.

"What core level are you?" I asked Rina, wondering how powerful of a mage I have been living with all this time.

"I have a small gold core," Rina proudly replied as she gestured towards her abdomen.

I beamed at her, also proud that my adopted mother had such a large mana reserve.

"But don't be fooled lux. A mage's mana core means nothing if they aren't experienced in combat or even know how to use mana properly" she added seriously.

Hearing this my curiosity peaked, I then asked hopefully " does that mean you will train me to use mana properly?"

"Well, most people have their first awakening around 7 years old, so don't expect any training any time soon" Rina sighed.

I frowned, thinking how useful it would be to use mana at my age. I wondered if I could awaken earlier than most people considering my mental prowess. I then dismissed the thought thinking that it was a physical thing and not mental after all.

"Since you are evidently determined to learn more about magic, I suppose I might as well help you" Rina added, causing my face to brighten at this chance to learn more about my new world.

After saying something in what I presumed was the Runic language, a small book came flying off her dusty shelf and landed with a cloud of dust into my small hands.

"Once you have finished this book on magic, we will travel to Hellvast forest and I will help you learn how mana works" Rina said conclusively with a smirk.

It looks like this world is starting to get interesting. I mused thinking of all the uses of magic and how it could change the very society of this world.

If I could awaken my mana core, I would be able to use magic! I thought hopefully.

And then everything would be different than earth, where I could only watch in horror as my comrades got slaughtered, in this world where I could have the power to protect, I can live out my dream with magic.
