A Walk Among Stars

Would you give your sight... the very essence of that sense of yours...? So that never again would you be able to see again. For the simple ability to heal. Take upon the injuries of those you care for. As with a single touch. They shall be healed. Whether it be a broken limb... a bruise... or even a whole arm... nothing, not a single thing within your grasp will ever be broken. Yet when I opened my eyes... it was not the kaleidoscope of colors I knew the world as... nor the exuberant face of my sister. No, it was to this empty void. Filled only by my sense of touch. "Of course" There was no other answer that would satisfy my will. For this was my choice... and my choice alone. ... When the world was created... populated by species upon species of beings. Yet a drop here... a star that may have yet to burst. A small flap of some God's coat. For the world was given life. Life greater than others. For they could use magic. An ability so wondrous that many nations had been created and felled in the harrowed halls of libraries. Yet this ability was not equal, and neither was the strength of will. For it appeared within women, every man that was born... for every one of them, there was an equal thousand women. As for magic. A rare occurrence already, made even more rare by the gap. A change in dynamic. For there was not some great king... there was not one holy emperor. Or even a god. There was a queen... a holy empress.... a Goddess. For man's place was not on the battlefield but upon the soft ballrooms, kitchens laden with instruments of creation rather than destruction. Married into well families that cared for them like precious possessions.

Among Stars - 4

Again and again the stars dimly faded. Such a sad sight, for only they had survived. A journey of a thousand miles and more. Hundreds of millions of years. All just to fade beautifully into my eyes.

But just as they had faded, leaving nothing but a memory remaining, so too did the darkness. A void chased away by some hungry giant. A giant that let the light suffuse the core of its being. Bringing with it a red… a green… a spiraling color that spoke of so many things.

Yet when I looked at it once more, letting the morning sun blanket those colors. The silver light of the moon fading behind the orbiting star.

Once more I was woken from my thoughts. Holding the hand of a nursing beer. I took a sip, then another.

Only sipping… only drinking one or two.

For in moments I would meet my charge. I couldn't be too drunk after all. I rose through the crowd, carrying the jug with me to the counter. Asking for a refill and the foamy beverage did so. Giving me release as I sat there.

Hand outstretched to catch that chin of mine. Staring not at the windows, showing visages of the waking world.

No, I stared straight at the stairs, ears strained for the telltale signs of footsteps. For I knew, that not one prospective student would stay here. It was a favorite among truant students. But that was all.

It was not popular and in fact in an out of the way type of area. Where the nobles would never try and stay at. It was too… hm… what was the word…

Peasant. Yes, that was it.

It was too peasant for them, they couldn't bear to feel the discomforts that it afforded.

Yet when I thought of those misfortunes. As I watched roving students taking their last vestiges of freedom. I thought only of how wasteful it was. That they paid patronage to inns ruled by the academy.

When their money would be drained dry by the end of the term. It was only fair that they reaped the consequences of their frivolous spending.

A first lesson. One that many wouldn't learn for weeks. Until their letters turned up dry.

Yet as footsteps echoed through the stairs, vibrating in a way that I just knew that it was my charge. The blind fool that had given his life to my arms. And the haughty professor that had to give me the order.

"It is here." A voice spoke. A knight, unknown and hidden. The symbol that usually hung proudly upon all pieces of their garb, gone and discarded.

"No welcome?" I ask, smirking as the hand of the boy was placed over the counter. A glass of water ordered and poured. Slurped down with a voracious appetite.

He was cute. Oh so cute. With a head of blonde hair, tinged with a sort of green. Hollow eyes that seemed to roam the world. And a petite body fitting of the child he was.

I just wanted to devour that body. Mm~ I bet it tasted absolutely delicious.

"Gabriel, yes?"

He nodded, furrowing his brows as he carefully searched his body. The knight watching my every move, as if judging my conduct.

Yet for the moment, I was nothing more than the perfect picture of noble grace. Holding my gaze to the bar, my hand still and my smile stiff and welcoming.

"Is there a problem…?" I deliberately slowed my words. Asking for his name.

"Ah. Gabriel, and no I merely had a letter. It… It's only hiding in my pockets is all."

He searched for another minute, patting down the pockets of his garb. Only to have an aha moment where he looked to his knight.

There was a flush of red on his face.

"I think I may have left it on the stand. Could you please grab it?"

"By your orders." She bowed and left. Bunching her hand to her side and walking with a certain grace.

"This letter, may I ask of its contents?"

He nodded his head, bobbing from side to side. Looking even more like a child and with those blank eyes of his…

Oh, I just had to glance around my surroundings finding them free of all distractions. And with it my tongue licked at my lips, a hand cupping around my cheek.

He just looked so delectable. I could just gobble him up, corrupt him in all ways.

"It was an introduction. Mother sent it along with some money. As for the details, I cannot divine them at the moment. I was implicitly trusted to not touch the contents after all."

I nodded at his words, waiting for the heavy steps to stop. When they did I opened the letter that they held.

It was simple, really. A check for a couple hundred thousand, a letter of introduction. Telling of what I would do for the pay.

Quite simple.

"I can accept this." I nodded.

"That's great." He smiled, clapping his hands and turning to me. Blank eyes meeting my own.

"Miss?" A delicate voice, one that sung with an invisible melody. Yet even so I scowled, knowing that he could not reach through that veil of darkness and see my emotions.

Only what he could divine through hearing, through touch and taste.

And so I freely smiled, one of annoyance, that he had addressed me by some formal name. Of a noble bearing that I had no love for.

He was better suited to calling my name. Preferably over and over, moaning in pleasure of course.

I wasn't an animal. I was no dead fish, merely caring for my own joy rather than my partners. Of course I would take all the pleasure he would give and return it ten fold.

Yet as I licked my lip, feeling that warm presence cover my own hand. Tingles sent through my spine, lips revealing a nubile tongue. To wet my lips.

I smirked, grasping his hand tightly in mine. Fingering it with dexterous fingers, a sort of massage that he couldn't ignore.

It was just so cute… how he tried to suppress that groan of pleasure he let out. Not knowing that he was scrunching that cute forehead of his in thought and focus.

Ah, but that was the woe wasn't it. That I could not tear through those clothes of his, bring to bear that forbidden fruit and take him like some sort of animal.

It wouldn't do to be caught performing such a lewd act. No matter how unknown the family was. There would be no one to defend my actions. The academy could only go so far to hide such things.

But to do it in broad daylight, among thousands of others, I scoffed, it would be too scandalous to let me be.

In fact it would be used against me, if only to earn sympathy from that cute being right next to me.

Tugging at his arm, bringing my charge to my stomach. For that was where he reached to, I found myself guiding him towards his rightful place.
