Chapter 102

All around the field there was equipment scattered everywhere, piles and piles of equipment, that made me actually wonder exactly what sort of games will be holding today.

I had earlier thought it would be something a bit more simple, like just a few sports to be sincere, but yet it looks like this place is going to be the home of many, many, activities today.

"When are we expected to actually close from all this?" I asked Alice and she shrugs. I can only imagine exactly what that shrug means. It means even she herself does not have an idea of when we are going to be concluding this little death fest.

"So the game just keep going on, and on, and on?" I ask. She shakes her head at this.

"Each and every game will usually have a set number of competitors, once that number is achieved the openings for competing in the game will be closed. Most people will decide to take their chances by participating in the smaller games, but I'm sure almost everyone will go for the fighting ring, so that is exactly what decides how long the will last. We'll stay here until one person is left standing, I don't think anyone will be allowed to leave otherwise. It's tradition", she finishes the last part with something of a sigh, and leaves me wondering at how they can have such an absurd tradition, and how they can be so equally absurd themselves.

Even this whole concept of a game where people get to fight with real swords and dangerous weapons is just animalistic. It is very barbaric of supposedly civilized beings to be engaging in death games, at least that's what the whole point of this little farce they're all throwing here is.

It isn't until I looked into Alice's eyes that I noticed she is also affected by this. I can imagine how all this would be affecting the original inhabitants of this place mentally, the games that supposed to happen only once in twenty years is suddenly happening twice in just nineteen.

It means somebody wants a lot of people out of the way, and they want them out of the way quickly. They want them out of the way in the most inconspicuous way possible, and so they are using everyone in here against themselves, they are using each and every person against each other and that seems totally wrong to me.

It is wrong for someone to intentionally play on the emotions of others, no one is a tool, no one is meant to be used for killing, no one should be doing dirty work just because they want to ensure thier family's survival. The distant look in Alice's gaze tells me that she's still thinking about her sister. She's still thinking of her sister, who was the first person to practically die in the midst of all this.

For a moment I realise I am actually scared, I am scared because now I know exactly why she seems hesitant to give anyone a remotely warm look.

Her sister was the first to die, nature only dictates that she follows.
