Eirik sat on the edge of the bed, hands clasped in his lap, his heart pounding in his chest.
The room was quiet, the only sound the soft crackle of the fire burning in the hearth, casting a warm glow across the room.
His skin tingled from the earlier preparations, the warm bath, the scented oils, and the silk robe that clung to his form like a second skin. The translucent fabric left little to the imagination, and every time he caught a glimpse of his own reflection, he felt his cheeks heat with embarrassment.
This was the night. His first night as Kaelix's husband, and the nerves swirled inside him like a storm. A mixture of excitement and anxiety filled his chest, making it hard to sit still. He shifted, trying to calm the butterflies in his stomach. The servants had left him to wait, and he assumed Kaelix would come soon. But the longer he waited, the more nervous he became.
