Tortured Minds

Dreg sat in the middle of the room onboard a careened vessel that was in the abandoned shipyard. He was tied to a chair, hands and feet bound. Tape was wrapped around his head holding cloth in his mouth to stop him from screaming. Light stood in front of the table in which she laid out her tools. She had been allowed to bring these tools with her when she was sent to this world. They were tools specifically designed for harming a reaper, otherworldly designed.

Light grabbed two of the knives one shorter and one longer. She began running the edges of the blades against one another. "I don't think we ever found out what your soul type was. Luckily I thought ahead and brought my locator with me." Light pulled the locator from her lab coat pocket and stuck it into Dreg's arm.

"Green." The locator read out loud.

"A regeneration type? This isn't your lucky day then huh?" Light maniacally spoke.

Dreg was mumbling through the cloth and nothing he was saying could be made into words, Light grew tired of it. She cut the tape off his head and pulled the cloth out. "No one is going to hear you except those three anyways. Go ahead and beg."

Dreg began crying, pleading for Light to not do this and she hadn't even started.

"For what your leader did to Nicole's father, I will never forgive any of you. I had to watch her in pain, crying every day. She would cry to the point she would puke and then cry more. She wouldn't eat and the only time she slept was when she JUST COULD NOT CRY ANYMORE! She would lean her head against me after the tears stopped and would whisper to me that she just wanted to die. I won't stop… I will never stop until that god damn man is dead. You and the rest of them will burn right along with him. So if you want out of this… I'm sorry but it's too late. Courier or not you're one of them."

As Light finished what she was saying she stabbed the short blade into his left hand. He let out a scream that echoed inside the ship but no further. He began to glow green healing the wound around the knife stuck in his hand.

"Rapid regeneration, interesting. But you apparently still feel the full amount of pain so that's the negative to your ability."

Light took the long blade and slashed across his chest, the wound instantly closed but not before he let out another scream.

"Oh right… the questions. Are you really a courier for Reign?" She asked as she wiggled around the knife stuck in his hand.

"Yes…"

"Good good… How many leaders does Reign have?"

Dreg sat quietly still dripping blood from his hand.

Light slowly balled up her fist activating her soul. Both hands turned into her solid black metal reinforcement and she punched him in the jaw. A loud crack boomed inside the room as his jaw had broken. Tears rolled down his face and he whimpered, unable to speak. Mere seconds went by and his jaw healed back into place. "Oh I knew this was going to be fun." Said Light as she wiped the blood of her fist.

"We have one leader… his name is Nicholas Tress." Dreg answered after his jaw was repaired.

Light nodded. "Yeah yeah I met him… he's the one responsible for Nicole's father. Then again Emily and Jakub did kill his brother."

"They killed that psychopath?" Dreg eagerly asked.

Light nodded once more. "Is there any other hierarchy to this gang?"

"I can't tell you anymore… they'll kill me." He replied.

"What a coincidence cause I'm going to kill you if you don't."

Light walked toward her tools grabbing one that looked like mechanical pliers. She then told Dreg that these were intended to latch onto fingers and toes, rotating and then breaking them. "But with your healing they'll snap right back into place right? This will be a blast!"

Light broke all of the fingers on his right hand and watched them all heal one after the other. Dreg passed out from the pain. Light summoned her twilight and boosted his adrenaline to wake him up. "This could be all over much more soon if you just tell me what I want to know."

"There's three captain's of Reign. They hold the second most authority and control the three districts of southern Lotte. Obviously Nicholas oversees it all but they run the districts and report to him."

Light smiled. "Good boy… now tell me. Where were you supposed to meet after your delivery today?"

"Weasel District in the south. It's run by a guy who goes by the name Fidget. You'll know who he is when you see him." He answered hurriedly.

"Where is his hideout?" She asked grinning in his face.

"It's a warehouse that's heavily guarded; it's almost impossible to miss." He replied.

Light walked away from him toward the table. "Thank you…" she said to him while facing the table.

"Are you going to let me-"

Light turned around and punched her hand into his chest. Grasping his heart and getting her face close to his. "You were never going to leave here alive. You hurt someone I care about and I've said it before, none of you will live."

Dreg stared into her eyes seeing the pain in them. She stared back into his, tears rolling down his cheeks. "Goodbye Dreg." Said Light as she ripped his heart from his chest.

Emily outside sitting next to Jakub and Nicole on the side of the ship felt a chill in the air. She looked around and saw a soul wandering. "Do you guys see that?" She pointed up toward it.

Nicole and Jakub both turned to look for what she was talking about. "There's nothing there." Nicole replied. Jakub shook his head. "I don't see anything either."

As Emily was still pointing toward it, the soul sped toward her and into her hand. She began glowing green and then it faded. She noticed a small stream drifting away from her to Nicole. Emily believed that the power she borrowed from her just now went back and that something had replaced it.

Light was still below deck, with Dreg's heart still in hand. She set the heart on the table and ripped her knife from his hand. Wiping the blood on her coat and then putting the blade away. She put her tools away and then grabbed the heart and made her way to the deck.

Light walked up to the three of them sitting on the edge of the ship. Nicole looked at the blood and saw something in her hand. "What happened down there Tricia?" She asked Light.

"I got everything we needed out of him… and then killed him." The three of them stared at her for a few seconds but did not have any negative emotions about it. She threw the heart over the side of the ship. "There's going to be a lot we need to do before we try anything. We're going to need a whole new plan for this and more knowledge on Emily and Jakub's souls. I know someone that may be able to help with that."

Light sat next to Nicole on the edge of the ship and leaned her head on her shoulder. "I know I was trained for this, but it was so hard to do. I kept going just because I felt so much rage."

"It's okay." Nicole hugged her tightly

Emily processed what was going on and the fact that Dreg was killed. That's when she realized she had absorbed his soul. She had taken in another green soul ability removing the other one she was currently holding. "Let's go home guys…" Emily said to them all as she looked at Nicole.

Nicole nodded. "Let's go."

They all rode in the care silently on the way home. Light hadn't told them anything she found out yet but planned to that night. Once home Nicole told Light to take a shower and she would have the maids prepare dinner for everyone.

Light stood in the shower rinsing blood off of her body. Her hands were covered in Dreg's blood. She kept playing what she had done over and over in her head. Until she heard knocking on the door. "Tricia, are you okay?" Nicole asked as she sat outside the door.

"I don't think so…" she replied.

"I'm here for you and I'm never going anywhere. I know that was hard, I don't think I would've been able to do it. Which is why I'm going to get much tougher. I'm going to have to, if I want to be the one to kill Nicholas." Nicole told Light.

Light came out of the shower and dropped to Nicole on the floor. "Let's stay like this for awhile." Said Light.

Nicole nodded.
