The Truth

The next morning came, Emily had made it through a day and Jakub was only there for the night. That being said the two made it to their next day after running in to a reaper off the bat.

Jakub sat up in the bed and slid his back against the headboard. He sat thinking about what he could do in this life to make it different than his last.

Emily had already gotten out of bed and changed clothes. She knew what she wanted out of this second opportunity and that is what she was going to get. All she could think about was getting into the university.

Nicole had one of the maids go get Jakub and Emily to join them for breakfast. Neither of them were really okay with just sitting at some big fancy table and eating, so they convinced Nicole to go out to eat before going to the university. The three headed outside where the driver was waiting to take them into the city for breakfast.

"So did your Dad make it home okay last night?" Emily asked Nicole.

Nicole nodded. "Yeah, he just leaves early in the morning to get to the school ahead of time."

"We should meet him in his office. There's a lot the two of us need to tell you." Said Emily.

Jakub sighed. "Are you sure you want to? I mean I agree it would make it easier from the start, but do you think it's smart?" He whispered to Emily.

"Yeah, I think we can trust them." Emily responded.

Jakub nodded in response. "Okay."

The driver landed outside of a small restaurant that Nicole had requested. She had said that she loved the breakfast here and that it wasn't far from the university. "Plus it's on me!" Nicole shouted in excitement to the two of them.

"Well if that's the case I'm not holding back!" Jakub yelled back.

Emily smiled and the three all walked into the restaurant. "Welcome back Nicole!" Said a waitress as she turned toward the door. "Would you like your usual booth by the window?"

Nicole politely responded. "Yes ma'am, thank you."

They sat down and ordered coffee to drink. Emily and Nicole sat beside one another and Jakub sat across from them. Things settled down a little bit and got quiet for a few minutes. Nicole stared out the window drinking her coffee, Emily was running her finger along the rim of her cup, and Jakub was just overloading his coffee with cream and sugar.

"So tell me you two! How do you know each other?" Nicole asked, setting her coffee down and gripping the cup intently.

"Well… we don't actually." Emily hesitantly answered.

"Yeah… as a matter of fact the rooftop was the first time we ever met." Jakub said with a nervous grin.

Nicole sat looking each one of them in the face. "You don't seem to be lying. So I guess you two really aren't dating!"

"Dating?" Both responded.

Emily asked very curiously. "What made you think we were dating?"

"I mean I wouldn't mind you're kind of hot." Jakub said, looking at Emily.

"Thanks you too…" without thinking Emily responded.

"Wait…" She had realized what she just said. "I have to go to the bathroom." Emily got up and walked away.

Nicole laughed and Jakub shook his head.

"We're not dating and the part about us not knowing each other is the truth. We have a lot to tell you but she wants to tell you and your father." Jakub said as he took a sip of his coffee.

"Okay so when we get to the school I would like to hear everything." Replied Nicole.

The waitress walked over and asked them if they were going to order food. Emily had just gotten back to the table and the three of them agreed that they were going to eat. Nicole ordered two eggs and toast. Emily ordered a stack of pancakes. And Jakub, well, he ordered like Jakub.

"I want a stack of pancakes, some scrambled eggs, two pieces of toast, ohhh make it French toast and I'll take some bacon also!" He ordered excitedly.

Nicole and Emily both stared at him then looked at one another. "If you're not gonna ask it then I will." Emily told Nicole. "How the hell are you so fit eating like that?"

Jakub smiled. "I have absolutely no idea."

A few minutes passed and their food was brought to them. The three of them ate their food, paid and headed out.

"We'll walk to the school from here, it's not far at all." Said Nicole.

The other two agreed and began walking toward the university. They could feel brushes of wind as people that had the ability to enhance their speed were zooming past them. They would see cars that were still driving on the streets being transformed by people that were able to manipulate things they touch. The cars would stretch out just to be able to pass a car and then return to normal. One person was stretching their arms so long they were swinging from billboards and flags to get around the city. It was, as said multiple times before, a real life superhero world. But with the good comes the evil and our protagonists were bound to run into villains that weren't reapers sooner or later, just not yet.

"So Nicole, our Soul types don't allow us to do things like that?" Asked Jakub while pointing at the guy swinging around. "Because that looks freaking fun."

"Well we don't know anything about your soul types. The only thing we know so far is that Emily is able to use my abilities and have no side effects." She replied.

Curiously Jakub asked. "Wait, your ability has side effects?"

Nicole nodded. "If I use my healing ability my nose begins to bleed. The longer I use it the more I bleed. Ironically my healing can't stop the nose bleeding. I haven't tested it obviously but I'm afraid that if I continuously use my heal that I will either pass out or die, depending on the wound."

"I mean the healing is awesome but the other stuff sounds scary." He replied.

They arrived at the school and headed into the building in which Nicole's father's office was. They walked inside the room, he was sitting at his desk and across from him was Nurse Light.

"Good! Just the three we wanted to see." Said Viktor.

Nurse Light smiled at the three of them. "Good morning."

"Good morning." All three responded.

They sat in the seats next to Nurse Light, across from Viktor.

"We wanted to talk about you two, Emily and Jakub. We would like you to join this university under the pretense of an academic scholarship and live at my home." Viktor told them excitedly. "We will have Nurse Light stay with us also to keep track of your souls."

Nicole began to blush. "Nurse Light is going to stay with us? You didn't talk to me about this but I'm okay with it I guess."

"Good!" Replied Viktor. "Now what about you two?"

Emily and Jakub looked at one another.

"I wanted to attend the university from the start so I completely agree with all of this." Emily was excited about it.

"I don't know, I did kind of di-" Emily elbowed Jakub in the middle of his sentence. "What the hell Emily." He whispered to her.

"Don't say anything yet stupid… Just agree." She replied angrily.

"I'll handle your living expenses and take care o-"

"Deal." Jakub interrupted Viktor.

"You didn't even let me finish." Said Viktor.

"Don't care, deal."

"Okay then everything is set, you will attend the school and be enrolled into soulology classes as soon as possible. You'll live with us and Nurse Light will help to study your souls use and abilities." Viktor said as he stood up.

"You should sit back down sir… there's something we need to tell all of you and it shouldn't leave this room." Emily said while twirling her thumbs.

The room got serious and everything got quiet while they figured out a way to word everything.

"We're not from here." Said Jakub.

"We're from another world and I don't mean planet. No we're not aliens. In a sense we are time travelers but we're not here because of some stupid car. It's another world and I can't click my heels and go home because I was killed there. We… were killed there. I was stabbed while on a date in the park which still exists to this day apparently. Some two hundred or so years ago in a different reality. I'm probably not explaining this well… Emily please…" Jakub finished talking.

Emily sighed and began. "As he said we both were in the reality we are from. We were torn from our reality by a powerful being known as a reaper. In a sense she saved us, had it not been for her we would just be buried right now. She made a request of us since she is the one that brought us back we couldn't refuse. Elena Mortem, the Princess of the afterlife asked us if we would hunt down reapers sent here by her father and figure out what they are up to. We killed one on the roof of the school last night. Dr. Christian Tress was a Heartless. That is what reapers created by her father are known as and I believe they're here for the soul power of humans but I don't know exactly what for yet. This would also confirm the theory of the multiverse and the fact that your civilization is in time and technology hundreds of years ahead of where ours was. We mean none of you any harm and we would still like to be welcomed here. We trusted you enough to tell you all of this."

The flicker of a reaper happened again. A really fast flash that seemed like the reaper was either hiding in the room or the reaper is hiding their grim that well. The two looked at one another after noticing it again.

Jakub reached his hands behind his head and leaned back in the chair. "Well… I trust you guys and so does Emily. Now that we've told you the truth. Do you trust us?"

The room fell silent and everyone looked as if they were in deep thought.

"We do." They came to a consensus.
