Chapter nineteen

Running down the street screaming our heads off like a bunch of maniacs for the truck to stop we crazily waved our hands in the air trying to grab the driver's attention.

Seeing the look of utter fear on Somila's face just made us scream even louder. However, our attempt at stopping the truck came in vain as the man drove further away, unable to hear our screams.

" This. Is. Your. Fault."

I said between breaths pointing at Erica. She rolled her eyes in reply. Too out of breath to retort back.

The truck was now nearing the school gates and we knew if he left the grounds now, we might never catch them. Not thinking about my actions I sped up a little more and made a beeline for the thorn-infested rose bush where I could cut them off.

Cutting through was extraordinarily painful which made me think. Why was I going all of this for a girl I just met not long ago?

Was this really worth it?

After all, she was competition and the fewer candidates there are, the greater my chances. Then again, I'm already here, and changing my mind now would just be a waste of my time.

Coming out of the rose bush I tripped on a rock causing me to momentarily lose my balance and clumsily take a few steps forward. Sighing in relief that I didn't fall the sudden honk of a truck nearly made my heart jump up to my throat.

Turning around to face the vehicle my eyes widened in horror. I made eye contact with the driver, his eyes equally as wide as mine. Quick reflexes and all he hit the brakes hard, causing skid marks to come on the road.

It stopped just a few inches from me. A few inches from hitting me that is! Legs now jelly and body too heavy, I balanced myself with the front hood of the car slowly sinking to the gravel ground.

I heard the truck door protestingly creak open and a loud voice followed after.

"What the heck were you doing kid?! Are you alright?"

The man asked with concern. Still too stunned to speak I raised a hand in dismissal, telling him I would live.

"You nearly gave me a heart attack there, girly."

The sound of two pairs of footsteps making their way toward us made me look up to see Erica and Yusa finally arrive. Out of breath must I add.

"What are you two doing at the back of my truck? Hey, are you with this one here?"

He asked my two comrades pointing down at me. I was still crouched down with my head resting on the front of the truck.

"I'm so sorry sir, there was a problem-"

Erica tried to explain the situation to the elder man while Yusa pulled out a now crying Somila from the back. Looking up at them I watched as the man dawned a shocked face at the sight of a girl getting dragged out of the back of his truck.

"What in tarnation- what is happening right now? You-"

He pointed at Somila with complete confusion written across his face.

"How did you get back there?"

"That's what I'm trying you tell you, sir! Our friend here ran out and hid in the back of your truck while it was parked but then you started driving off with her and we ran after you, screaming our heads off but you couldn't hear us over that darn radio of yours and so-"

Erica rambled on and on but it didn't seem like the guy was getting any of it. Honestly, I couldn't blame him since the girl runs like a cheetah. Well, her mouth does, not her. She's slower than a snail running on the back of a turtle.

Wait, what?

That didn't make any sense. Why would it though? I'm too much in shock of nearly being run over to give a damn about making sense right now.

"Okay, okay I get it, little missy-"

"Missy"

Erica raised an eyebrow at the nickname. Still seemingly confused the man massaged his temples, eyes clothes it looked like he was trying to get his thoughts together. They must have gone out the window after nearly running over an extraordinary being such as myself.

Imagine what the world would be losing! Ain't that a travesty, or is the proper term tragesty? Meh, whatever the word is it would be that.

"Look, I'm really having a bad day today. In the first place, you shouldn't be climbing in the back of a stranger's vehicle."

He said with a stern face looking at the tear-faced Somila.

"It's dangerous and you don't know if the person is a killer or not."

Preach sir, preach. Wait, then does it mean he's a serial killer? Is that what he's saying?

"And you"

He now turned to me, face contorted with rage. The concern he had a few moments ago was gone. Went along with the thoughts.

"Why would you jump in front of a moving truck? You know if I hadn't stopped in time you could have been run over right? Something that reckless and stupid should not be done!"

Did this old pirate just call me stupid? He's the stupid one with his dirty ass beard. I can see last night's dinner in there. Dig deep enough and we'll find ourselves all the way in Narnia.

"Well, I was just trying to catch up to the truck. Not like I wanted to jump in front of it like that. I tripped forward ending up in the middle of the road."

Defending myself I looked up at the man from my crouched position. He shook his head, hands placed on the hips.

"We apologize for the whole...misunderstanding and hope we didn't trouble you too much."

Wow, is Yusa actually apologizing right now? Is hell gonna freeze over?

"Yes, and please forgive our reckless friend here. She didn't mean to cause you such distress."

Did that bloodstain just call me reckless?

"Hey, what about Somila? She's the one that climbed in the back of the truck! None of this would have happened if she'd just-"

Suddenly a hand covered my mouth, cutting me off mid-sentence. I was then pulled from the ground, Yusa turned to the man once again apologizing.

Erica took Somila by the shoulders, walking back to the school building. Yusa and I followed behind in a hurry. I was still mute thanks to a certain someone with a death grip.

Fed up I licked the hand and as fast as lightning was let free.

"Ugh, that's disgusting. What the heck is wrong with you?!"

"I have no idea what you're talking bout."

Feigning ignorance I laughed at the look of disgust she had on.

"What're you guys arguing about this time?"

Looking back at us, Erica gave a questioning look. We simply shook our shoulders, faces as blank as a fresh set of paper. Rolling her eyes she shook her head at us already fed up with our banters.

"Anyway, shouldn't we be discussing the fact that Somila here almost got herself kidnapped?"

Crossing my arms I looked at the girl in question, she quickly diverted her eyes away from me and to the ground instead.

"You're right, Clover. Somila,"

Erica began, lifting her friend's head she forced her to look her in the eye she spoke with a stern voice.

"What in heaven's name were you thinking? Are you crazy? That was extremely dangerous. You could have been lost or worse, injured and lost. What if we didn't find you in time, huh?"

Why does this sound familiar?

"Losing you would have been a very difficult thing to get over you know!"

Ah, now I remember. This reminds me of my mom whenever I did something outrageously reckless. Damn, I just admitted that I'm reckless. I'll just not tell Erica she's right. That'll be a secret between me and you brain!

"Erica's right."

Stepping forward towards the two, Yusa placed a hand on Erica's shoulder.

"What you did was really dangerous."

As she said that she rubbed her hand down Erica's back. The same hand I licked earlier. I silently laughed and watched in silence as my spit was transferred onto the unknowing redhead.

"I think Clover is starting to rub off on you. You're becoming as dumb as her."

"Hey, the hell you mean by that you porcelain doll!"

I questioned Yusa with a frown.

"I mean exactly that."

She simply stated with a smile. Oh, that bitch seriously wants a piece of me.

"Alright, let's leave all the fighting for another day. Right now we need to get our bags and leave. The gates are gonna close soon."

Again taking Somila, who stayed silent the entire time the mute; she turned to walk again.

Yusa and I gave each other death glares but did as we were told and followed behind the two girls.

Days went by and school is once again uneventful. Other than me holding hands with my darling rogue, Adam.

Okay, he just so happened to brush his hand against mine in the hallway while changing classes but it still counts as holding hands. They touched so it counts for something.

Making my way to the mess hall I felt someone tap me on the shoulder. Could it be Novel about to tell me off again? My heart sped up at the thought of my dark knight in not-so-shining armour speaking to me.

Tossing my hair to one side I turned with a little sass.

"Yes~"

I said in my most seductive voice, only to be met with disappointment. It wasn't Novel or Chase or even Adam.

It was the devil himself.

"Ugh, you"

I said with disgust, face matching the attitude.

"Why do you sound like you didn't wanna see me?"

"Cause I didn't."

"I'm hurt!"

I rolled my eyes at the boy turned around and continued forward. What the heck was this guy doing here? I thought I wouldn't see him ever again after that dinner fight. Why must I meet him now of all days?

Doesn't he know I'm eye candy-deprived here? Though he isn't too bad-looking himself.

"You know I was hoping I'd see you again. I even went around school looking for you."

Of course, he did. Jeez, this guy really would be a perfect candidate as a beloved but alas my heart has no more room.

"Anyway, I was thinking maybe you and I should go out sometime, for dinner I mean. Without the, you know food getting thrown around like hot potato"

Oh no. I gotta get out of here.

"So what do you say?"

"U-uhm, you know I'm really busy that day."

"I didn't even say what day it would be?"

"Well, whatever day it is I'm unavailable."

I nervously answered.

"Really?"

He raised a questioning brow.

"Yeahp"

"Come on Clover. I just wanna get to know you. I won't even try anything I swear. I'll even-"

"Clover! Get your big ass over here!"

Yusa yelled from a table all the way in the back. I never thought a day would come when I'd be grateful for the existence of that grinch.

"Ah, sorry my friends are calling me. I gotta go but I'll see you around."

Rushing off to meet the crew I didn't dare to look back, if I did my heart would definitely falter. But this bitch has only room for three. I don't cheat cause I ain't no whore.

"Hey."

Greeting them I took an empty seat next to Erica.

"Why were you talking to Michael?"

She asked with a brow raised and a bit surprised.

"Wait, you know him?"

"Know him?"

Yusa interjected.

"Everyone knows him. The guy is known as the school's hottest guy. Of which I agree with."

"Hold on, back up a bit. Did Yusa just admit another human being to being attractive? Shut the front door!"

She rolled her eyes at me. Surprisingly Somila spoke up with a somewhat soft voice.

"He is pretty hot though. Even I have eyes."

The other girls nodded in agreement.

Oh my gosh! Even Somila? Why was I the only one who didn't find him that alluring? Maybe I'm in denial? Nah, I'm sure I'm just the only one with properly functioning eyes. That must be it.
