Benjamin inhaled deeply, the smell of burning was becoming stronger and more penetrating.
Sheila, with her keen sense of smell, had noticed it first, but now it was unmistakable for both of them.
"This isn't good," Sheila said, her voice trembling slightly. "It could be a fire."
Benjamin nodded, although Sheila couldn't see him in the darkness.
"How can I disconnect all this without hurting you?" Benjamin asked urgently.
Sheila took a deep breath, trying to stay calm.
"First, you need to find cotton and some medical tape. They should be in one of the drawers of that table," Sheila said, pointing to the bedside table, although Benjamin could barely see in the darkness.
Benjamin moved quickly to the table, opening the drawers with shaking hands. The sound of objects shifting filled the room as he searched desperately.
Finally, his fingers touched a box of cotton and a roll of tape.
