As A Team

The plan is as follows. When the man exits the bar in his drunken state, Charlotte will act as bait, helping him escort him home under the guise of them 'getting along.' I'm not sure what Charlotte meant by that, but I'm not too worried now after seeing just how capable Charlotte is.

Since we know where he's currently staying, Charlotte parked the car nearby his house, leaving me inside with the passenger side window down. Charlotte will then lure the man along this path towards his house, and when I find the right opportunity, I'm meant to shoot him; in the head if possible. I did worry about if I shot Charlotte instead, but again, after seeing her fight and dodge all those bullets, it makes it a bit easier for me.

Eventually, night soon came around as the car and the area around me became ingulfed in darkness. But just like the time when we were at the first mission, I could still see quite clearly, and after twenty or so minutes, I could see Charlotte coming around the corner from behind along with the man in question.

"Bahaha~ You should come with me sometime! You're a hell ova lot of fun." He sounds strange...

"Ahaha~ Yeah!~ Sounds good! I like your company as well~" The man has his arm around Charlotte as they walk, but I couldn't help but notice that Charlotte's also acting strange. She does match the man's energy as they both seem quite drunk, but from what Charlotte told me, she can't get drunk. Then she's just playing along?

"Hey, you should stay the night at my place." The man continued, pulling Charlotte closer to him. As they come up to the car. Sensing that it's nearly about time, I get the gun ready, switching the safety switch off just like what Charlotte told me before taking aim properly. Making sure the gun isn't sticking out of the window.

"Is that really okay? I won't be a bother for you?~" Hearing Charlotte, I try to steady my breathes, making sure the sights all line up with one another. I just need to wait for the man to cross by the window and shoot. I just have to pull the trigger...

"Of course not! All those others were so boring. Plus it'll be dangerous for you to go back like this, don't ya think?"

"W-well, if you insist- ah!" Suddenly, right when Charlotte and the man was at the side of the car, across the road, Charlotte tripped up over something as she falls to the ground. The man stops in his tracks, looking down at Charlotte.

"W-woah! Hey, are you okay-?" Now!

I squeeze the gun, pulling the trigger as a loud 'bang' reverberated in my ear as the bullet inside was sent flying out the window, aiming straight for the man. With Charlotte on the ground and the man standing still, I took the opportunity. However-

"Aaahhh!!!" I didn't hit his head, but instead got his neck as he immediately covers it with his hand, trying to stop the bleeding. I end up firing another shot, this time aiming slightly higher, hoping to hit his neck, but I must've overcorrected as I end up hitting the side of a building instead.

Panic starts to set in, thinking that I messed up. It was then that the man looked my way, his eyes meeting mine. He tried to reach for something in his waist, but in that moment, Charlotte got off the ground and disarmed him before he could properly do anything.

"W-what are you-" Seeing Charlotte giving me another opportunity, I quickly fire five more shots while Charlotte was behind the man. I may not have hit him in the head, but I did manage to hit his body all five times as his body squirms in Charlotte's hold. And in a matter of seconds, the man falls to the ground face first once Charlotte let go of him.

"I-is he dead?!" I end up yelling out of the window towards Charlotte.

"Not yet, take one more shot. The cops will be here soon, so make it quick."

"Yes!" At Charlotte's words, I adjust my position as I'm now aiming slightly down from the window. I watch as the man barely even moves from the ground as blood slowly begins to pool from underneath him. But once I aligned the sights with the man's head, I take one final shot, this time hitting his head perfectly, rendering him completely immobile.

"Hahh~" I let out a sigh of relief, sensing that it's over.

Charlotte then quickly took the gun from the man's waist before running around to the driver's side of the car before hopping in.

"You did great, Shiro."

"But I messed up."

"Don't worry about that. I was originally thinking you wouldn't be able to hit him at all, hehe." Even after all she taught me? She still thought I'd fail more than I already did? "But to hit him in the neck for your first shot, I'd call that a huge success!" Despite my failure though, Charlotte smiled at me, even praising me for what I did.

"Thank you."

"Hehe, alright, let's get out of here." She says before stepping on the gas, driving away from the now dead body.

It was the first time I willingly killed someone, not like a monster, but an actual person. Weirdly enough, I don't feel as bad as the time when I used my powers. Maybe it's because Charlotte was there with me? Sure I was a bit nervous before, but once I started shooting, the nerves all went away and instead I was more focused on whether I failed or not. So to hear Charlotte happy with me, it puts a smile on my face as we drive back to our apartment.
