“Listen, you’re right, of course, Robert. I just need time to live with this news, and, as you said, make adjustments to my life as I know it. I’m sure I can do this.” She stood up and went over and sat beside him. “You don’t know how much I appreciate and love you. Then she kissed him on the cheek. “By the time we arrive, I’ll be ready to tell Cyril.”
“And Leslie and Edward?”
“We’re a family, are we not?” she said. “Trust me, I’ll sort it out.”
That night after dinner, Caroline gathered her little family of men in the front room by the holiday tree and there she told them her news. And just as Robert had predicted, they were over the moon about it.
