A Beast's Second Attempt.

A legendary man, blessed by the God of War himself, killed countless enemies in innumerous realities. Until one day, he fought his last battle. Of course, he was victorious, being the last man standing. The Beast, how the enemies called him, walked in the direction of a tree stump, sitting on it. He put down both of his axes, used to kill his enemies, and looked at the sky. He closed his eyes and a soft smile appeared on his face for the first time after thousands of years. Relief. That's what he felt. His soul left his nearly immortal body and, as it was reaching the light, it screamed "No! I'm not done yet!". And, the God that blessed him, answered his prayers for the first time in his existence. His voice was as piercing as a lightning and as resonating as a thunder, said "Then, so be it." A flash appeared in his sight, and, when it faded away, he opened his eyes. For the first time, it wasn't a battlefield, but a peaceful wooden shack, sitting in a handmade chair, holding his axes. Before he could even wonder what was happening and enjoy a bit of peacefulness, he sensed enemies approaching. Peace was never meant to him, apparently.

"I'm no slave, you can't just get me as you will." The man who went through the door with the carcasses said as he looked to the man with a sledgehammer over his shoulder. He looked at Beast for a moment until laughing out loud. "You are a funny guy, I like you. People call me Sledge because of my weapon, nice to meet you, brother."

The bearded man got somewhat confused by the quick change in atmosphere, but he firmly grasped Sledge's hand and shook it. "I have no name, you can call my as you will. You were saying about needing me, when is it?"

Sledge didn't even budge to explain, having that guy to work with him would be amazing. "Three days from now, we are going to a goblin's den." The healer behind him was a seemingly frightened, it probably was her first time going adventuring. "Three days? Yeah, good enough. And you should get rid of the healer, she doesn't want to go along and goblins are dangerous, even more to newbies. See ya around."

Without much explaining, he got his compensation for the Quest and the dead boars and left the Guild. "What? Get rid of her? Why? Don't just throw that to me and leave, brother!" Sledge said as he tried to grasp his attention but he simply left too quickly for him.

"I don't even need these, what should I do with it? Maybe I should give it someone?" The Beast thought as he looked to golden coins inside the leather bag he received as payment. It wasn't that much, but it was a good amount. His attention quickly diverged as he noticed some disturbance in a close alley, that he soon chose to inspect. When the man looked what was going on, he could see a young girl, face down, as other kids mocked her.

The Beast, of course, wasn't going to harm the kids, but he made a loud noises by colliding both the blades of his axes, making the children eyes diverge to him, and, of course, they ran away in fear. as they screamed: "Another monster!".

"Another?" He wondered, as he got close to the girl that was hugging her legs, clearly disturbed. He squatted down and quickly passed his vision through her green hair. "Are you okay? Are you harmed in any way?" The Beast put his hand on her shoulder, trying to get a better look at her, was the moment he noticed what her "hair" was. "Snakes?" As he was about to react, her eyes connected with his.

He felt a cold down his spine, as his skin hastily turned gray. "I see. She was the other one." He thought as the petrification completed. It didn't last much, as it cracked before reaching his whole body and replenished the rocks with skin. "To think the first person in a long time to make me get that scared was a child, huh? I'm losing the hang of it." He said out loud as he stared at the girl, seemingly confused and scared.

"Quite difficult to be different, isn't it?" He said while smilling, the man said such thing, and yet, didn't seem sad at all. His action were confusing, and not only that, but he easily resisted a curse, the little girl noticed that. Although, there was something comfortable for her, right there. "You can go home now, they won't bully you for today, go find your parents and eat something." The Beast said as he got up on his feet, but a feminine voice quickly reached for her inner strength and came to talk with him. "I- I... I don't h-have a place to be..."

The weakened and fragile voice of the little girl reached him, as he turned around once more to look at her. "What? You don't have any parents? What happened to them?" The man looked confused, even though he knew how it felt to be alone. "I--I never met them... It's been hard to... Hm... Live... Like this..." The girl said sobbing, as her eyes started to tear up, even though she was noticeably starting to dehydrate. "Oh... I feel you, I'm sorry for the unkind words..."

No apology he made would make her past disappear, so she started to cry once more. He looked around and looked at his leather bad, that he ripped off a part, making the coins fall, and wrapped around her head, covering her eyes. "Grab my hand, I'll try to make your life less miserable. My life isn't that great, but you'll be able to survive with what I'll teach you."

Confused, of course, the girl didn't understand what he was saying. Yes, he may have scared some kids away because he felt pity towards her, but anyone would be able to do that. The tall man had also broken the effect of her wicked effect, so she didn't now what to do. The girl knew that having a house to live in for sometime is a good thing, she had done as such for most of her short life.

"Of course, you can just stay there, and we depart ways now, you don't have any obligation to trust me." The Beast said as he started to walk in the direction of the exit he came from. What should she do now? Her abilities to escape are uselless if he wants to do something bad, but she doesn't know how much she can stay around without proper alimentation and sleep.

The man's hand was reached as he was about to leave the alley. "Training won't be easy, it's going to be quick compared to any other teacher you can find around, but it will take sometime with me. I expect you to hold on until the very end." The Beast said as he headed for a hotel as he held the girl's little hand.

"I never thought I would have an apprentice." He thought to himself as they walked together. Maybe this dimension was going to be more different than other he ever went before. Perhaps it was good luck, or bad luck. It all happened too quickly for him to tell.

They walked in silence until they reached the hotel, soon reaching the receptionist. He got a key and paid to stay for the night and walked as he held the little girl's hands. "I hope staying in a hotel isn't that bad for you. You have to take a bath, I can buy you clothes tomorrow." The man said as he entered their designated room.

The girl, of course, was confused. Why would he do that if he didn't even know her until some minutes ago. Maybe he wanted some favors out of her or something, she was only that young, yet she had already seen how people can be. "Why... Why are you helping me?" The girl, who was mostly quiet, spoke.

"Why? Hm... I don't know. I felt like it." The Beast said in a carefree voice, as he sat in on of the beds of the room, crossing his arms and looked at the bathroom door. "You can do your things, I am not going to use it today."

"I-I'm fine, y-you don't have to do any of this, y-you know?" The little girl said, she clearly looked frightened, and with reason, she was technically kidnapped. The Beast didn't look like he had any kind of common sense in him, or didn't seem like he had. "You stink. Just get in the shower. You don't have to wear the blindfold around me." He said as the closed his eyes.

Probably for the reason of being frightened, she simply obeyed and got in the bathroom, quickly cleaning herself. It was actually satyisfing, to get cleaned and have somewhere to sleep, but it was scary to have a random guy that walked around shirtless and resisted a strong curse like it was nothing.

But, running away from him wouldn't work, she knew it, somehow, a feeling deep down inside her made she sure that whoever that man was, he was peerless, and nothing she did could beat him. But... She was frightened, yet, not afraid, he didn't feel like a threat, the man was quite a strange fellow. Probably anyone who met him wonders, how did he became the way he is?
