There were a few extra feet creating havoc upstairs today, including Sheri’s grandkids and an assortment of Bobby’s family as well. Nick had given up on keeping track. Nick had kept his fingers crossed until they arrived. Rather than being impressed by Nick’s medical degree, John’s sister viewed him with suspicion. Tensions had grown once John announced he was keeping the house and he and Nick were making it their home, even with the buyout he offered them.
Hmmph. Nick pursed his lips. He still wasn’t sure how he felt about John having to pay for the house he’d worked so hard to keep in the family, but taking out the loan with John had given Nick a sense of ownership in the old place. And hey, unlike his student loans, nothing was as relationship-affirming as mutual debt.
