Guided by the seven headless figures, Gu Fan followed them past a cluster of tombstones, feeling the chill of the wind and hearing what seemed like mournful wailing in his ears. His heart pounded in fear and he only wanted to get out as quickly as possible.
Further along the path, Gu Fan came to a large tree and was stunned. The tree branches were adorned with dead bodies, all dressed in clothing identical to the ones in the ancient town, their eyes wide open in death.
"What on earth is happening?" Gu Fan's growing fear made his breaths quicken, clearly a result of terror.
Picking up a flashlight, Gu Fan shone light on the hanged bodies and was startled to recognize some of the faces. They were the bride and groom from the bonfire party.
This perplexed Gu Fan even more. Why were the people from the ancient town here? Weren't they supposed to be wreaking havoc upon others? Was this supposed to be some display of sympathy?
