Part 4
The requests of the stewards
Days later, Wetonia's spies at Kafka sent a messenger. The recipient was governor Kataros, who had been taking too much heart tonic lately. Well, it was the fault of the ambassadors of several kingdoms to come and propose to the king. He always thought that these people should know that his stubborn king didn't care if he was hostile to the entire continent or not.
Even if the army came to oppress for the marriage, he would destroy them to dust. His fury was not simply as they thought. This was not a mere widow who only wait for help.
"Your Majesty chased away another kingdom?" said Alfiria, the demon general, while drinking tea with her comrades. Usually, she would patrol outside the city, but today, she heard that the messenger came from her own subordinate, she decided to come and see.
"Do you think your majesty listen? If anyone starts to talk about the marriage, he gives them a dirty look. What a young man who hated commitment," Kataros said.
"Can't help it. He himself had a bad experience with marriage life," this was her opinion.
If you killed your own first husband, and the other one who you loved so much was pushed to death. Plus, you were unlucky for the pregnancy with your beloved husband. It must have some hesitation for the new marriage.
"Maybe I wonder if our viceroy was sterile? They'd been together for ten years, but your majesty had no symptom of pregnancy. If he'd been pregnant, he'd not have to marry again."
"Or will your majesty be barren!" Kataros assumed. But Alfiria gave a very contemptuous glance. She was also a half-demon and a forest witch, so she knew that the devil would never be barren.
"Devils live with lust and reproductive. This issue has no clue, it's impossible. I hope after this unlucky, some luck will be on our king's side," she sighed. Her king was a cold person, but that was only an appearance.
Your majesty, the real person, she was able to touch... was just a lonely person.
He was a stubborn lonely young man and had a bit of unfortunate, but all of that made him become the most arrogant king of this continent.
"Don't blame me for speaking badly. I don't think anyone would love your majesty with a sincere heart other than Lord Sangtis. Those people just wanted the power of Wetonia and only wanted to have power over him," Kataros said bluntly.
His straightforwardness was such a quality that made Ragnes admire. The person who would take care of the capital of the kingdom where the King resided should be the one who would only speak the truth.
"Of course, being able to bed the king. That's all they can think of," the woman sneered.
This was not about love but it was power. The king's body was a symbol of power. The one who owned that person was the winner.
Unfortunately, Lord Sangtis was really too short-lived.
While they were having a conversation, a soldier ran after them. It seemed that the secret message had reached the king's hands. And the king wished to have them join an ad hoc meeting this morning. Both Kataros and Alfiria secretly prayed that the matter this time would not be too cruel to their king.
This message came from the Kafka kingdom, the kingdom of men in the south nearby the ocean. This was known to be one of the great empires that had been against them in a war ten years ago. Now, that kingdom was in trouble for the throne. But the most interesting thing was a picture of a person sent by the spy.
"Sangtis…" Ragnes muttered his husband's name. This was as if the vision they had seen that night and it had haunted them. Indeed, what kind of prank were the gods playing with him?
In the magic orb was a portrait of a military general on the crown prince's side. That person's name was Rigel, a former mercenary with nowhere to go. But finally came to serve the troubled Prince of Kafka a year ago. This was indeed a strange thing.
"Can we say they just look alike?" Kataros asked. But even he himself felt that this was a stupid question.
A person who just looked like? Were they going to have the same face? The same shape, plus, the mystery story? That person appeared at Kafka almost the same time as the viceroy Sangtis's death.
Too suspicious! This was surely a prank of an angel or a scheming of some wicked man!
"What do you think, Your Majesty?" Demetriat, the secretary-general, asked curiously. When he asked, Ragnes smiled. He swept his gaze from the throne to his stewards.
Standing in the palace right now was the Pillar Cabinet of Wetonia. The leader of the government would be a half-human monarch like him.
In addition, there was Lauriet, a grandmaster mage as the prime minister. Demetriat, a bright-faced young man, was the royal secretary-general. Kataros, who must constantly take heart tonics, was the capital's governor. And, there were other stewards.
But the strange thing about this set of demonic cabinets was… none of them were true blood demons.
The city of demons, but the rulers of the country, none of them were pure-blooded demons. Moreover, each person's history was still very traumatized. If asked who hated the devil the most, they could tell that...they did.
But because of this, it was not surprising that Wetonia had grown into a country where different species could coexist. In just ten years, it was the most advanced country on the continent, looking beyond ethnicity and selecting only those with the talent for the right position. As a result, the flowers they waited to be harvested were beautiful, adding enormous value. It was a country that was not only good at war anymore.
They'd come this far, so they couldn't fall because of himself.
"I'm going to let this matter go," was the conclusion of Ragnes. His words shook everyone up.
Of course, their king knew that he couldn't send a single person out to follow his own husband, and he wasn't fit to do that on his own. Therefore, he chose a path that would not cause embarrassment to anyone.
"Let the spy keep an eye on Kafka. The things that should be done have been done. As for that man, just keep an eye on him."
Seeing the king being so cold, each of them felt a little bit upset.
The problems they were facing now were not far off. And even more so, it was not a personal matter for the king. All the cabinet ministers had been together during the founding of the country. Everyone had a connection with the deceased viceroy, knowing how the king's heart trembled.
Now, they saw a picture of a former comrade. They would like to know, to solve the mystery, and to prove.
However, for the King...it was complicated matter.
He was the great king of the Wetonia people. He was not just a prince struggling to win the throne. Normally, were you going to let the king get off the throne and went to look for his husband? Nonsense!
But the one who spoke first was the youngest, Demetriet.
"Your Majesty, if that is the real Viceroy?" Demetriet asked. He who was a spirit of knowledge had a great thirst for knowledge, any of his words that were undue curiosity could be blamed on his bloodline. Right now, Demetriat really wanted to ask the King's heart.
"Sangtis is dead. Everyone here saw him shattered with your own eyes. Now, there is still a lot of errands to do," Ragnes said.
This time, when someone dared to speak, another person followed up.
"Your Majesty, if the story from a year ago wasn't what we saw. but more complicated than that. Won't you want to find out the truth?" Kataros said, taking a heart tonic. Talking to a stubborn took to a lot of willpower.
The king was trying to make up his mind. He was going to play the role of the good king of the people. Instead, his cabinet wanted the king with a human heart. It was the loving hearts of human beings that took away both their lives and their loyalty.
"Your Majesty, don't blame me but if that person was the viceroy, you do not have to marry again. Isn't it better?" This time, the person speaking was Alfiria, his own trusty warlord's defense sergeant. She herself spoke on the spot until everyone nodded in agreement.
"Oh, then that's fine. No need to find a new husband. It doesn't have to be messed with politics and diplomacy, it's good to die! I say, Your Majesty, better hurry and get a border pass and go to Kafka!" Caldia, the Foreign Minister said cheerfully.
Then each steward tried to express their opinions. Of course, they all saw the same direction. His Majesty should trust them to take care of the country. As for him, pack his bags and run to Kafka to find the truth. If that was his husband. Even if he had to slap his head and drag it. Then bring him back to Wetonia!
"Hmm, everyone seems to have the same idea," laughed Lauriet while Ragnes made a face of merit. He was a king but was swarmed by his own stewards to follow his husband back home. The people of other kingdoms who heard it would surely laugh at them.
"Nonsense! If that person's a true Sangtis. He must already come back!" Ragnes didn't give up. But of course, Lauriet couldn't let him go any further.
"If he wants to return but there is a reason that cannot be returned. If the whole story had a mastermind, as we've assumed. So Your Majesty, you should go," the attorney smiled and quickly cut off the chapter. "This country, we, the cabinets you are proud of, can take care of. If you trust in us that you have chosen for yourself. So please let go of your stubbornness… go after the person who deserves to be here, and come back."
Ragnes was somewhat taken aback by everyone's decision here. He would surely think that this was the most illogical and most worthy of rejection. Even his own heart wanted to run to Kafka, but he was the king and his duty was here. Going to run after his husband, acting like a child of a generation whose blinding love was not appropriate, but the people in front of him seemed to understand the frustration. They chose to use this way of speaking for him to decide.
It was not just going to follow a single man back. but it was to go and get everyone's Viceroy back.
"This is… not a bad method of seduction." Ragnes laughed. He rose from the prestigious throne. He looked forward to looking at the ministers he had chosen with his hands. The days here were very different from the times that had been oppressed until there was no place to stand.
At that time, what did those demon stewards tell him? Did they say hurry up and get married for the sake of the new king? Those people only wanted him to sleep with their chosen one and give birth to an heir.
That day and today, nothing was the same.
"If we agree, then I... will take this good hope. And don't yell at me because you're too busy!" Ragnes said playfully, while the others smiled.
"I'm not going to yell. Your Majesty, because you and the viceroy will have to come to work and pay twice as much!" Caldia shouted. This made everyone giggle before laughing together.
Probably only in this country that the cabinet would dare to use the king to do such hard work!
Make a decision and then do it. This time might be a bit more difficult, but they wanted to try one more time together, as much as their power can propel.
