thanks for clearing that up if they pay taxes/tribute then it makes sense to protect their land of they didnt then Alpheo being under obligation to defend a vassal who brings no benefit whether in coin or men for war makes no sense.
This is actually better as it puts coin in the hands of the villagers and Alpheos people without lowering the prince's own grain supply, this coin in turn will eventually get spent go into the economy and so eventually through taxes to Alpheo, and while it is unexpected, it is actually a massive boon to have the guild have their shipments raided, and no blame can fall on Alpheo. It's more that he can gain from the guilds screw up by bailing them out if things go too badly. Also does Alpheos lord pay taxes to him, or will that be dependent on the lords individual feudal contract as I can't see him rushing to defend them if they don't pay taxes and refuse to raise a decent chunk of men through wars. It is, of course, different if they don't pay taxes but can be relied on to come to his aid in wartime when called upon, but that does not look like it is actually happening. I don't mind if the lords don't pay taxes as I am aware that all incomes on a lord's land belong to them.
Lets go i was wondering why alpheo was allowing the merchants guild to buy grain to supply the empire and it seems it was for them to dig their own grave and get the crown to have more power through giving them loans while making himself important. look forward to more
