It makes sense, it's just a coping mechanism, and I'd even imagine among the emotionless, there are different levels of severity. Don't forget, some of them need to act like spies, and I think true emotionlessness would make acting impossible, as without empathy, you can't act and pretend.
Authors note: Most root ninjas are not emotionless. In canon Shisui, Itachi vs two root ninjas showed that. They were so arrogant that they even attacked ANBU members and both the genius as well as the heir of the Uchiha clan. Maybe you can buy an ethernet making tool? Then you can break it more often in the future and it wouldn't be a big deal? I'd suggest pass-through connectors, but you'll want to make sure you get the tool that can cut and crimp at the same time, there $24 on amazon. RJ45 Crimp Tool Pass Through Crimper Cutter... I hope we are talking about ethernet and not the coaxial cable?
